This Week in the Forest! #179

YO FOLKS! Here's what we've been up to this week!

Starting with a A Word from Vixel!

1/8 update:

Hey floofs, happy new week!

Last week I worked on finishing build prep for our next build! Carrot spotted a bug during playtesting so as soon as that's fixed I'll get the files together. Last week I also tested performance improvements to be added in future builds, and worked with Carrot on game design and our roadmap for Act 4 / Steam / Itch.

On my end, I've been up to LOOOOOOOOOOTS of asset stuff! Act 4 has about 8 rooms that need to be made, I've finished 3, 2 are in the works, and then there's 3 more after that. There's tons of other stuff to get done as well, but these rooms are kinda the biggest fish to fry so I'm focus-firing them.

OK, let's talk about this weird ass image:


SO! This isn't meant to be show-ready, and it contains a total spoilers, so it's very zoomed out. It's also VERY MUCH lacking information, BUT BASICALLY it's a general estimate roadmap for Vixel and I to figure out what things we need to tackle and roughly when.

Over the last several years, we've had a lot of things filed into the "Polish" bin. Or the "we'll figure this out later" bin. But we're getting to the point where those things are gonna need to happen soon xD. For the Steam Release, we want A LOT OF STUFF looking pretty good by then. We don't necessarily have to be completely finished with the game, but a lot of things we want polished and ready, should be done before then.

We're using the Itch.io Act 3 release as mini milestone check for Steam. We'll be doing some of that polish pass then, just to get some of those long-standing-to-dos crossed off.

We don't really know how long it'll take Act 4 to be ready, but we are gonna release "the end" all at once. We will be doing smaller monthly updates with some side content, but regarding the "end" of the campaign, we want it experienced all at once! There's a lot to do for it for sure, but I've been making good progress. I'm hoping to have things done for it by March. I will have to juggle some of the side content, but other than that, it's all assets!

This lil like "roadmap thing" was really good for us to do. We haven't really done something like this in a WHILE for TFOL. We've been operating on "For this month, let's do x" - which works pretty well, but it's easy to miss stuff that doesn't fit in that month. This lil' dive gave us a good idea of what things we need to tackle, and what our priorities should be for the next milestones.

So yeah! Other than TFOL, I was able to squeeze in a bit of blender time to mess with this Rocket model rip from Marvel Rivals.


I quickly made/rigged this dong, and he's ready to go! Rocket's rocket! Next 3D vote might be him and my bunny ;) BUT, it might also be TFOL content. OR, we might do 2 polls this month. I dunno. Speaking of polls, the Horse loop for last month is basically finished, just gotta-rerender a lil part! That'll go up soon!

- OK! That's it from us! Next build should be ready pretty soon! It's pretty dang short to conclude Act 3, but yeah, I'm sure y'all will dig it! Note, we can't REALLY conclude act 3, since it's suppose to go straight into Act 4. So the experience won't be quite the same when this build comes out, compared to when it's all done xD, But i guess that's obvious, and kinda how a game in production goes!

I'm glad to know that there will be different types of language in the game

Yeah! Localization is one of those lil nodes in that chaos haha! And definitely not on a TFOL 2. It's possible we'll do some spin-off stuff, but there's A LOOOT to TFOL 1 that's not in yet. And though we are "finishing the campaign" - a lot of the game is just starting xD

2 questions... 1- Will the TFOL game have language options, for example Spanish? 2- I know it's too early to think about this but is there a chance of a TFOL 2?
