Added 2021-05-03 13:19:51 +0000 UTCOkay so, the Oort Cloud is really stinking huge and sparse and not that much of a concern for impacts, but I can't let go of an opportunity to name drop my own handle now, can I? ;) I first heard of it as the Opik-Oort Cloud, not sure what happened to Opik.
Next week: what has Fayes gotten herself into now? Nothing could have gone wrong with turning up the artificial gravity...

Estonia was behind the iron curtain so in the West they dropped Opik's name in favor of the Dutch.

His speciality was the minor bodies of the Solar System – asteroids, comets, and meteors – which at the time were an unfashionable area of study. In 1932 he proposed that comets originate in a cloud orbiting at the edge of the Solar System; this is now known as the Oort Cloud, after the Dutch astronomer Jan Oort who revived the idea.
