Its actually interesting how this can happen in real life. Some viruses can insert their genetic material into a host cell, but not lyse the cell (Burst) immediately, unless the host cell is put under a survival pressure (Not enough food in this case)

2020-04-07 03:30:38 +0000 UTCI knew she was pregnant (though how that happened is another mystery) but from re-reading the first chapter I figured she got bigger when the suppressant gel hit the entire room and was probably unconscious and the alien decided to feed her.

2020-04-06 16:46:10 +0000 UTCIt's hinted that she was already pregnant, and that the creatures can rapidly absorb nutrients from their hosts. Just a theory, but guessing based on Fayes' size vs the other woman, they'll gestate as long as there's food available and "birth" themselves if the host can't provide for them.
