Behind the scenes; contest EP1 introduction

Hi guys, this is an unplanned video, but I have this spontaneous idea to make a little behind the scenes series of Creality's contest. More information about the contest can be found here https://www.creality.com/activity-news/3d-printer-global-diy-contest The idea is to make a simple real dual extrusion system. With real I mean, two separate hot ends. I think that it's important that the submitted upgrade is targeted towards Creality's printers. The direct drive extruder I'm working on would not fit this criteria for instance.

I'm going to make multiple videos about this and I want to take you along with this small journey. Failure is always an option so the foldable Ender 3 or moving portal mod will be a plan B ;) Please let me know what you think of the idea and don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions. I'm willing to help you too if you have something cool you want to submit. Have a great day!

you're awesome guy

Thank you! The repeatability indeed makes it a success or a failure. In my mind this will work like a charm, but this can be a lot different in reality xD

Thanks! This is a great suggestion which is easy to integrate in that red part. This will make it a lot better

Great idea, as always. If you can get good repeatability to where the hotends click into place this will be very useful.

Quick and dirty drawing but you should add something like this to one of the hotends: https://prnt.sc/xkdag9 By turning the bolt the hotend will move up and down very precisely, getting the same z offset on both hotend will be really hard without something like this.

Thanks, it's always nice to have a plan B. The foldable printer is not main stream enough to stand a chance I recon. If this idea fails I think it would indeed be a good idea to submit the moving portal mod. Hopefully this will be a success :)

I think the portal mod is a nice design to use as a second option. Great idea tough.

Thanks Luke! I can't believe it either and it would be so cool if this would actually work! I did some searching and couldn't find anything similar, but I'm not that good at searching xD Maybe I'm going to need a spring mechanism in order for it to work, but I hope that the flex within the material itself is good enough. We're going to find out :D

This is absolutely genius. Can’t believe no one has thought of this yet but that always seems to be the way it goes lol
