Asset: More Mechanical Scans!
Added 2024-01-01 05:47:18 +0000 UTCSo Lux and I drove back over the mountains to the tractor museum, and used our new scanning knowledge* to get a bunch more stuff! I've already been using these for everything for the past few months, and I'm excited to share them: 53 new mechanical scans!
As always, I feel like I'm simultaneously over optimizing and not optimizing enough (I feel like texture resolution bogs down my renders way more than geometry bogs down the viewport), so my only real benchmark is how much I enjoy using them- let me know if they bog down your system, or if you wish they were higher res in the future! The use-case is definitely greeble-centric (something that'll hold up in a medium shot without bogging everything down, but which might not look particularly great in a closeup), and they're kind of an extension of the Construction Equipment Asset, and should work the same (drop it into your Asset Browser folder or just append from the blend file as you normally would!)

Hope you all have a great new year! I think 2024 is going to be really fun :D
Ooo- I should do a video about different ways of getting lots of different photoscans to all kind of "gel", cause there's a lot of ways to go about it.

*Shoot video in 4k with camera-mounted LED panels, then convert the video into about 300 images with a lot of sharpening, and run through Metashape (which isn't free, but I do love it)
