Asset: Industrial Greeble of Love

So- this is admittedly a little thing, and I wasn't so sure about this bit when I first modeled it, but I've ended up using it in every scene everywhere in the past few months, and now we're basically in love, so I wanted to share.
You need a walkway? Railing? Rooftop bit? Robot part? Vending machine back? Air conditioner support? Fire Escape? Garbage? Sign frame? Overbuilt doorway awning? Industrial Greeble's got your back.
It also has great copy-pastability (you can have it in your scene a lot before you start to notice.) I usually end up deleting random bits off it (or pasting bits around) to have it do whatever I need. Look I feel like I'm pitching this bit really hard, but it's just *stares at it in silence for an unexpected amount of time* really important to me.
It's based on a picture I took down in the Tacoma harbor. I gotta do another texture shoot some time soon, here.

It's obviously there on the end of the cement thing he's sitting on, but it's also every pointy thing in the background.

It's in this shot like a hundred times, haha- it's basically every little random metal thing.

Few times in this one! Not as many times as it should be, actually.

2020-06-02 14:25:38 +0000 UTCSimply disable viewport overlays. You can even assign it to a shortcut to quickly turn on and off

2020-05-31 15:08:26 +0000 UTCHey Ian, I've a quick question, when you're editing UVs for a set of faces, and you're dragging them around on the UV texture map, is there a way to turn off the selection in the 3D view-- so you can actually see what's going on? Or do you just have to deselect, look and select again?

2020-05-29 18:57:52 +0000 UTCIts amazing how much usability you can get out of something like a Greeble, first time I hear this word actually lol. It speaks volumes to what is possible if you look at things from different POVs!
2020-05-29 01:21:30 +0000 UTChow do you block a scene with 3d kitbashing is another tuts in itself....so much to learn from you ian ...

2020-05-28 15:27:07 +0000 UTCIan, you constantly amaze me with how much stuff you get done with so little. You are a true inspiration, man!

2020-05-28 12:47:39 +0000 UTCThat's one handsome greeble. I still don't understand how those shots (especially the bottom picture and the one you posted before of the "waterworks") can look so painterly. It's like a hand-painted background. Is this all achieved in After Effects with Filmconvert? Either way, it's very well done. The waterworks picture is currently my desktop background...

2020-05-27 23:07:23 +0000 UTCI'm so enamored with your image modeling technique, but unless I'm following you step by step I rarely get the quality of results you do. Guess I just need more practice, but please, please keep this stuff coming!
2020-05-27 23:05:32 +0000 UTCAwesome stuff man! Can't wait to throw this into my scenes. Any chance we could get those super cool laterns in the last scene?
