Diamond Tier Direction (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Please note that I'll still aim to make long form content if the choice is not selected, but they would be Full Price Premium Exclusives on TG Comics. For instance, Costumed 3 would be on this tier in the Summer leading up to a Halloween finish, otherwise Patrons would have to pay for it on TG Comics in late October. And choosing not to move forward with Timber Grove would simply move the comics to other tiers.

Y'all have made the choice to support me at the highest tier available, and as such I really do care about what you want this tier to be. People often ask if "Likes" mean anything, and for the most part they mean nothing to my standing in the larger Patreon platform as I'm an unlisted "Adult" creator. So the only thing each Like does is tell me what people on the site are digging at that moment.

I was pleased to see a really nice response to the opening of Dress-Up, and was surprised to see it get more likes and comments than my launch of Timber Grove. That leads me to this post as I'm curious what you, the Patrons of the Diamond Tier, want this tier to be.

My original intention was to build out a large interconnected universe of stories set in the Timber Grove Universe, but from comments and DM's I'm beginning to think there isn't much of an appetite for that.

So, what do you want this tier to be?

Please let me know what you think in the poll below and with any comments you're willing to share.

Thanks so much for your top level support!!!

Tyler :)

PS: I hope you enjoy a new look at the Genesis 9 models!

Diamond Tier Direction (UPDATED)

Comments

I'm certainly going to be mixing things up with the longform stories, and the next one will be unlike anything I've done before :)

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I'm happy to say that I'll be focusing much more on mid to longer comics from here on out :)

Executive summary: I like longer stories, more character development, slower transitions, more tension, twists and mystery, and I would love a massively interconnected TCU., even if it appeared slowly and sporadically. You don’t have to be so structured and systematic. I heard about Patreon from TG Comics. When I had the time and spare money, which I don’t have either of right now, I bought all of the comics to support all of the artists to keep making these types of stories. I came here from there. When I have the time and money again, I’ll go back there and systematically work my way through everything I've missed. I read a lot (possibly not all, but all that I could find) of the ‘Timber Grove’ stories as soon as I discovered them - long before they began appearing on here - and I loved them. I devoured them. I loved the interconnectedness, the randomness, the eccentricity (why is 'bizarrity' not a word? It needs to be a word) and the recurring characters of that world, even if they weren’t central to the plot, like Stan Lee cameos in every Marvel movie. I especially like any clever (crazy) ways the stories or characters are linked together, even if it's not relevant to the main plot of every (or any) story. Sometimes, those little side eddies, red herrings and passing WTFs (hint) are just pure joy, sometimes specifically because they’re not related to the plot, but I realise not everyone is like me, so I get that there may have to be stories that appeal more to others. I love complexities and details, Chekhov's guns and world building, consistency and lore, but I also know some people hate that and just want a short, simple, linear story with a happy ending and ingredients S, T and A, that gives them their quick fix with minimal effort or cerebral gymnastics. Each to their own. Just make it interesting / funny / clever, even if it operates on two different levels. I would love to see the 'TCU', even if only sporadically. I like the similar Universes that some other creators in this genre have created. The format / length for me is not the issue. You can do the same things in short or long works. I'm attracted to: (a) the premise - Is it novel, clever, interesting, 'avant garde', taboo, dark, mysterious, etc.? Does it draw me in? (b) the quality of the story - Are the characters engaging? Is the dialogue clever? Are they developed well (even if only superficially in short works)? Do I connect with them? (c) visual appeal - Are the female (ish) characters attractive to me (sorry, I don’t care about the male characters unless they’re becoming feminine, but realism for what they do and how they behave is preferable or it drops me out of the world)? Are their designs interesting? Are their clothing/make-up/hair designs cool? Are the frames staged in an interesting way? Do the scenes look good? (d) I prefer more realistic looking characters, not caricatures or excessive stereotypes, but I get that people have their fetishes. I do too. (e) I would prefer less stereotypical, ‘boy-becomes-girl-meets-boy-falls-in-love-gets-married/pregnant/both-lives-happily-ever-after’ story endings. Occasionally, OK. Mostly, boring as bat-shit. Life is more interesting than that. More variety of endings would be nice. I do like ‘just desserts’, but sometimes, the bad guys/girls win (That’s why we have sequels, like ‘Xeraphim’). If I worshipped a deity, it would be ‘Nemesis’. ‘Comeuppance’ is a beautiful thing, even if you have to wait for it. I realise other people want to prioritise other things, and I have my preferences for character looks and behaviours too, but I like those things to be incidental to the story and not the whole point. Having said all that, I'll echo what others have said in that you should do you. I realise you have this system and workflow of delivering x number of pages on time, that seems to give you satisfaction and pump up your self worth, but sometimes, I'd be happier to wait a bit longer and see some more creativity and imagination (and wonder or fun?). You should also do stuff that's fun for you and not worry so much about whether everyone likes everything you do.

I like a mix, and the idea of a short form content that stands on its own but also rewards paying attention to past stuff intrigues me. But I definitely don't want it to feel forced. I personally haven't been as big a fan of some of the long form content you've had recently. For some reason they just didn't resonate as much. Still I think there's a place for that and obviously not every story needs to appeal to every reader!
