FIREBRINGER | Songs 7-10 (Finishing Act 1!)

Comments

I think he'd absolutely love hearing Dylan Saunders sing Kick It Up A Notch. I can already imagine his reaction to it. I desperately need him to react to Starship.

Sterling Klein

I was looking for this exact comment to see if anyone else had made it before I went to do it too.

Sterling Klein

my sister and i unironically have said shwoopsie instead of oops or any other similar statement since firebringer was first posted haha, it's in my vocabulary and will never leave

ariona leilani

I have a full essay on character analysis on both jemilla and zazzalil which is why i think its really funny when people dont care about the characters of this show. Which is totally fair and it’s all about what speaks to people personally. I really love how the music motifs echo the conflicts and similarities between zazzlil and jemilla and the tribe as a whole.

Ratatosk Clarke

Also in the night belongs to us when they pick up the “this is the dawn” that had been jemila’s song that she led. When you see her standing behind them while they sing it without her, her face says a lot. I really love her character shes so fascinating.

Ratatosk Clarke

Anyway act 2 is fucking amazing and I cant wait for you to see it

Ratatosk Clarke

The hamilton motif is basically a tribe leader motif. It was Jemilla’s motif earlier, and now its zazzalil’s!

Ratatosk Clarke

Also for into the night I feel like the choreo is supposed to embody that theyre searching for zazzalil while singing those motifs

Ratatosk Clarke

as a trans person in this current climate things have been super scary. but i love starkid and firebringer is one of my favorite shows, and getting to watch you enjoy it makes me so happy.

Ratatosk Clarke

Jemilla is just trying to keep the tribe safe and do what has been proven to work instead of rsiking everything on something new. Like you said at the end, both their approaches have their flaws and strenghts, we will see how it works out in the end...

Philine Trnka

Oh I would love for Mortius to do Starship next! I know the whole fandom loves the Hatchedfield Series, but it just isn't my cup of tea I guess. It has always been Twisted, Firebringer and Starship.

Philine Trnka

I’m also more interested in the storyline than the characters themselves.

Dorothy Rosenberg

I'm pretty sure the drumbeat you're associating with Zazzalil was actually first used to introduce Jemilla! So I agree that it was used throughout their power struggle, but I think it's actually a little more interesting than just being Zazzalil's theme alone

XanEcho

"don't be mean to lauren!" bc zazzalil is played by lauren lopez ;)

madde

Also the former vizier who did all the over the top "behold! behold! the representative of Allah on Earth" stuff for the Sultan, sang the Golden Rule evil reprise etc.

Smee

43:31 Molag making it difficult for you to understand what's real... when you say that, it kind of feels like that's intentional, since that's how Molag has made everyone else feel. (I do see, as I'm typing, that chan said this in a much more intelligently written comment, lol.)

Bennett

I just realized that this musical is probably so drum-heavy because Marideth, the composer and actress who played Jamilla, is a drummer. Seriously, so many people in Starkid are talented, not just in performing but also in writing and composing.

I think the murky delineation between what is actually happening in the story/what is just meta commentary is on purpose as it acts as both a way to tell jokes and to contextualize the plot as a myth. Especially considering this is how stories were passed through civilization until written word was developed, through speaking. It also makes sense to have Molag, the elder, be the narrator since her role as an authority is placed outside of the main plot. Also I love that "The Night Belongs to Snarl" has that moment with the cave painting/shadow puppets--That is the only other key form of storytelling/historical documentation in this time period. And then to have Zazzalil say "they are not going back to the cave"--thus removing them from their history and effectively removing a way for them to document what is happening and how fire was created (at least for now.). It's interesting to see how this play covers the forms of human communication and how that intersects with progress.

chan

Ahhhhh!!!! I love this show so much!!!!!!! 💚💚💚💚💚💚

Emma

I think Smelly Balls and Ken from the Barbie movie might be the same character

Addy0302

Oregon Trail was my first Starkid production… another one to consider

Nicholas & Heather

Yes actor is named Joe Walker he has played in a bunch of Starkid musicals obviously this role Achmed and my personal favorite he plays Voldemort in Starkid Parody Harry Potter series

Anthony Velasquez

Was Ducker, Achmed the Tigerf*cker

Nicholas & Heather

YES! I wonder if they’ve had the same person/company making the more complex ones since they always look so polished. I backed their kickstarter (then completely forgot to actually watch the temporary recording)

Mafidon

I agree, it’s got some interesting points that it makes but it’s mainly just a fun little Stone Age comedy :)

Mafidon

I think most would agree that even though Firebringer might not have the craziest plot or the most life-changing songs, it's still definitely very fun and probably their most chill musical they've ever made.

Makayla

Team Starkid's humor is definitely a trademark of their shows. My favorite way to describe it is that they know how to make a professional show without taking themselves too seriously. They like to have fun with it, which definitely sets them apart from a lot of other professional theatre companies.

Ace

Cinderella’s Castle is coming to YouTube soon, it has LOADS of puppets!

Forest Gray

About the Lauren thing - it was just another fourth wall break, Lauren Lopez is the actress who plays Zazzalil

Mafidon

Or if you want more Dylan Saunders you can check out Star Kid's first solo funded production, Starship.

ShockedCorgi

Hey if you plan on more StarKid reactions, I'd recommend watching Holy Musical B@man. It was Jeff Blim's first time with the group and he has a starring villian role.

ShockedCorgi

I will say, I know that the puppets must’ve been expensive, especially for this show and Starship, but I do really miss them in the more current shows. I know they don’t really fit in with a lot of the current shows’ plots but they’re always so well done!

Mafidon

9:13 Angela!!! Calm down!! 🤣🤣🤣
