How to improve our Patreon
Added 2019-09-12 12:07:27 +0000 UTCEver since the beginning of starting a Patreon for Solace Crafting I've had a hard time figuring out how to keep Patreon posts unique rather than just copying updates from Steam and posting them here. It's a unique form of generosity from patrons and I have always wanted to do something special with the page, rather than just reiterate the content of updates from Steam. Unfortunately that has often led to me simply not posting about updates, and I'm sorry that's how things have been recently.
Over the past couple weeks I've brought up some of my thoughts with several of our patrons in Discord and others and I believe I have a good idea of how to make the Solace Crafting Patreon more interesting with a lot of good both for the game and for our community.
In short, I want to set several 200$ or 250$ goals and use them to contract original content for use in Solace Crafting from indie artists.
As an indie game developer I know how hard it is to get your feet wet in such a saturated market, and imagine it's likewise very difficult for aspiring artists to get some real world portfolio work / experience under their belt. I also think it will naturally be in the interest of the artists themselves and indie arts communities to help spread the word about our Patreon to help aspiring artists get noticed. If this idea catches on as I hope it will, I think it would also be great to have voting on each months artists and or areas of the game that need more attention, most likely as tier based patron benefits.
I think this will not only provide more and original content such as music, building pieces, armor, voices, and what not, but also be a great way to grow our community. I am an active member of several different indie communities on Discord, and for our first contract am planning to put out an ad for more building pieces to add to the game.

I want to make sure that our current patrons know about this though and are given a chance to voice their opinion. Not too many months ago this funding was literally helping me to survive, but sales have been slowly increasing and I now have enough to start looking for part-time help in areas that I am less proficient in such as 3D and audio.
Please let me know what you think!
