Two extra artworks to continue this comic’s story! ^^
Now I want to talk a bit about the shading in my recent pieces.
I’m sure most of you who follow Personal Secretary noticed a sudden change in the shading halfway through the story, and another big one in the most recent chapters.
Basically, what happened is that the tool I use to apply light and shadow got updated and completely broke the previous version.
So I ended up switching to the new one entirely.
The problem is that the new version is more accurate, but it gives the art that “generic AI” look , especially with blonde hair, which ends up looking kind of plastic.
A few weeks ago, I tested the old shading version again and, surprisingly, it started working.
So I began generating both shadings — one with the new method and one with the old — layering them together with the new one at 50–75% opacity, and fixing the remaining issues manually.
That gave me a pretty solid result overall.
Personal Secretary pages 74 to 89 were made using that technique, and they turned out infinitely better than the earlier ones.
(My drawing itself has improved too, but the difference in shading is the most noticeable part.)
Now that I finally have a decent GPU, I started experimenting with an AI workflow and found a way to fix the old shading issues without needing to use the new version that flattens the lighting.
I’m still doing a few tests, but I think I’ve reached a really good result.
