O:13:37 That sounded like the saddest old “Gluck Gluck”. ☹️

So...seems like your outro got cut off...ah, well, such is life! Great movies the both of them. Glad I finally got to see the 2nd, sucks that we have to wait almost a year for the 3rd! I was not expecting to see Christopher Walken in this! I almost wished he was a bit more....Walkenesque, but that wouldn't have fit the movie. It would for sure, however, provide us with some comic relief...right in the middle of a very serious scene, up pops the emperor to deliver a line in a more iconic Walken way 🤣. Wouldn't have fit. Would've been funny. Also not expecting to see Florence Pugh (Black Widow's sister Yelena) 🥰! You'll get to see her again in a later Marvel movie...not too far away. The battle scenes, again, were epic and fantastic! During the last big battle, when the guys came in riding those gigantic worms, Rob Zombie's "Dragula" started playing in my head for some reason! I think that would've made a great backing track to that scene! I'd say 'can't wait for the next one!', but yeah...that's gonna be a while!

The shadowy order Paul's mother belongs to are the Bene Geserrit, but it sounds like you are calling them Bene Jesuit. 58:00 Kwisatz Haderach is a term in Fremen language, also spoken by the Bene Gesserit. Literally translated, it means "shortening of the way." Using spice from Arrakis, the Bene Gesserit were able to tap into genetic memory, memories of their ancestors hidden in their DNA. The spice also gave them a limited amount of prescient power to see into the near future. The problem that the group ran into is that it was only made up of women—or, more specifically, people with only two X chromosomes. In the world of the book, this meant they could only tap into the genetic memory hidden within the X chromosome and although they could tap into all of their female genetic memory, they could only access the X chromosome genetic memory of their male ancestors. The Y chromosome memories remained unavailable to them. The hunt for the ability to access the Y chromosome genetic memory is arguably what turned the Bene Gesserit into the shady organization they are in Dune. They begin a secret selective breeding process to try and create the Kwisatz Haderach, a male with the powers of the Bene Gesserit that would allow them to access the Y chromosome genetic memory. 1:06:00 The aircraft are called ornithopters. That word describes any aircraft that generates lift through the flapping of its wings, like a bird. 1:11:00 Baron Harkonnen's nephew Feyd was played by Sting in the 1984 version of Dune. Wearing almost nothing. 1:58:45 Paul seeing multiple possible futures and a narrow path to victory is a bit like Dr. Strange using the Time Stone to view 14,000,060 possible futures and see the only one where they beat Thanos. 2:03:26 "What is he doing? What is wrong with him?" He's being Harkonnen, like he just told Jessica he would. 2:22:30 You don't love that Paul has all this authority and is exercising it. He doesn't love it, either. He fought as long as he could against gaining that power but it seems destiny had other plans. Dune Part 3 is coming on December 18, 2026. If that seems like a long time to wait, pity those of us who saw Part 2 in theaters the week of March 1st 2024 -- so add almost two years to that 11 months, then add the suspense of not even knowing what the Part 3 release date would be for those two years. If you decide to go on to the Dune: Prophecy miniseries (which I recommend) there are a few things you should be aware of (no spoilers): * Dune: Prophecy takes place about 10,000 years before the events of Dune Parts 1 & 2. It's kind of a prequel on steroids. * You saw how the Bene Gesserit play a long game. That game has its origins during Dune: Prophecy. The group the miniseries calls The Sisterhood will later become the Bene Gesserit. * About 80 years before the events of Dune: Prophecy, "thinking machines" (computers, robots, AI) nearly destroyed humanity. The last free humans rose up in an event called the Butlerian Jihad and overthrew the machines. Since then they have been outlawed across the Empire. Even ten millennia later, human computers called "mentats" function as organic databases and calculators. * The Landsraad is mentioned in Dune Parts 1 & 2 but covered in more detail in Dune:Prophecy. It's a government body consisting of representatives from all the Great Houses, ruled by a High Council and overseen by the Padishah Emperor. Its main functions were a mutual protection agreement against being singled out and eliminated by the Empire; and a way to form trade agreements and carry out sanctioned vendettas against each other. The Landsraad didn't act to protect House Atreides in Dune Parts 1 & 2, but to be fair, it's estimated that it would have taken the combined military might of ALL the Great Houses to stand against the Sardaukar forces, and House Harkonnen was on the other side.

Paul's story was not a hero's journey, it was a tragedy. While in some ways he chose the path he tread, in other ways it was forced upon him. You can just see and hear the regret oozing out of him when he says "And then I will do what must be done" before heading south to drink the Water of Life, and then again later when he says "Lead them to Paradise" to start the Holy War. There's a reason that's explained in the book as to why Baron Harkonnen is so obese. I won't disclose what it is just in case you want to read the book in the future. I highly recommend it. There are many details in the book that the movie makes use of, but will be missed by pretty much everyone who hasn't read it. Among those details are the powers and motivations of the Bene Gesserit. Besides the voice used to command others, another of the Bene Gesserit powers the movies do reveal is the power to control the gender of their children. They have others. Both Jessica and Paul changed dramatically after drinking the Water of Life. So in a sense they did die, as they were told before drinking it. Finally, I believe the third Dune movie comes out this December. If you get the chance, you should rewatch the first two in the theater. The experience is much more immersive with a huge screen and really big surround-sound stereo speakers. I'm very happy that I got to rewatch these movies along with your reaction to them.

Perfect timing Amber! This movie is great!

Jayce

Feyd was played by Austin butler the same actor that played Elvis

Uncle Darnell

The nephew is played by Austin Butler. He played Elvis in the Elvis biopic you watched.

David Callahan

The original 1980s version Of Dune actually shows the barons diseases a little better than they do in this one. Ever seen there’s a doctor working on him in the original

Uncle Darnell

Yes! Let's do this!
