Deep Impact (1998) Full Length

Deep Impact (1998) Full Length

Comments

The kitchen scene was filmed at the same hotel kitchen in LA that Robert Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.

Joey Tovar

Even the supporting cast on this was a pretty deep bench: Vanessa Redgrave, Maximilian Schell, James Cromwell...

Michael Griffin

1:23:30 I get why they're showing one pair of each animal - to play up the Ark symbolism. But one pair is not a viable breeding population, so it's silly to show that.

Michael Griffin

"Why did they have to detonate so earl;y?" Just like in Armageddon, if they don't deflect it by a certain hard deadline, it won't move far enough off its course to miss Earth. I agree it's kind of silly that the script kicked up the drama by ensuring the Messiah reached the comet with zero time to spare. If they'd been able to arrive days earlier, sure, no movie. But a few hours, even a few extra minutes? Come on!

Michael Griffin

Two movie recommendations, secondhand lions and open range. I think you’ll love those two movies.

Ray Lopez

You have to watch “THE IMPOSSIBLE” based on actual events, as recalled by one family. The anniversary of that December 26, 2014 Indian Ocean Tsunami is coming up. It’s obviously at Christmas, and if you like films like this one, you really should put it on the list ❤️❤️❤️Loved your reaction!! 🎄🎄❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Carol Rocha

Both of which are low rated on IMDb but I love them both!

Allan McPhail

One of my top movies. So glad I joined your Patreon as I think I’d have missed a lot of the shared emotion on YouTube only. Always brings me to tears.

Allan McPhail

There's a great series on Apple TV called Silo that I really enjoy. In fact I'm waiting on the next season to drop soon. There's also a series on Hulu (I think) called Station 11. Neither about asteroids hitting the Earth, but are of the post apocalyptic genre.

Mairn

I can agree with this for sure

Amber Walker

That’s it!

Amber Walker

He looks like baby Frodo because he is baby Frodo. Elijah Wood played both roles. Two other movies of this genre worth a watch are Don't Look Up, and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.

Mairn

TIt is a toss up. I like this one a little better. Armageddon took more in space. Deep Impact took more on Earth. All the emotion for this film took place throughout the film. Armageddon was the closing credits with the wedding.

RidingTheFrequency

It's always been hard for me to pick a favorite between the two.

Jayme LaFontaine

This only thing this film is missing is the cast of Armageddon, a few drill heads, space dementia, Aerosmith and some cheesy ass music.

Ar

Another good extinction event movie is, Melancholia, with Kirsten Dunst

Craig G

Red was the bad guy in Robocop.

Craig G

I guess you next watch will be 2012 or The Day After Tomorrow. I love a good disaster flick. Poseidon Adventure is good too. I always loved the 70's version

Marty B

Deep Impact and Armageddon are pretty much the same movie. However, Deep Impact is the better film in the same way Tombstone is better than Wyatt Earp. Deep Impact lets me connect better to the characters and the impending disaster.

Missionary_J

I actually like them both. I just have continuity issues with Deep impact because I live in Virginia and know that you can't get there from here ( any of the there's to any of the heres) in the amount of time the timeline at the end of the movie would suggest. beyond that its a great movie. And I think I would vote for Morgan Freeman.

Marty B

The Beach is another classic. Theads is a classic too. Good call.

SERGEANT ROCK'S HEADBANGERS BALL

Wait until she watches Greenland....That movie is a 4.5 out of 5 stars😁👍

SERGEANT ROCK'S HEADBANGERS BALL

👆🏼👌🏼

roberto h.pilia

Both films are great in their own way. Its based on what you prefer to watch. The action pack mission of a disaster film or the emotional drama effect it has on humanity

Ichigoat

Another good reaction by you. If I may kindly suggest you continue the “Scream” film series? You’ll love 3-6 and Scream 7 will be out soon

dawnisunique

Steven Spielberg... enough said!

Kyndu

Red bull and protein shake? That's a stomach ache waiting to happen.

Steven Garcia

Love this movie, although I think Armageddon is better. Also I guess I'll keep complaining ,how come so many of these Patreon videos the volume is so much lower than the YouTube edits. I watch at work, and with earbuds in I can barely hear the movie on Patreon. The YouTube edit I can hear just fine?????

Brent Stroot

I preferred Deep Impact, although I enjoyed Armeggedon as well. Like you said, Amber, the pacing in Deep Impact was superb, and it gave you more realistic scenarios that made you think about what you would do in an E.L.E.

Phillip Borntrager

Another ELE movie that was well made is "2012". Worth the watch and your reaction. Also "The Day After Tomorrow" with Dennis Quaid. Between these this movie and Armageddon, I think Deep Impact is better on a catastrophic level. Armageddon has just a single act of sacrifice where this movie had many more.

Steven Costa

I enjoyed Armageddon, but I like Deep Impact better. It's more realistic and scientifically accurate than Armageddon. With Deep Impact, you have a comet that hits the ocean, which is more likely to happen because 71% of the Earth's surface is covered with water. Whereas in Armageddon, you have meteors aiming for some of the well-known structures of the world. Astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson says that the movie Armageddon "violates more laws of physics per minute than any other film ever made."

Wil Castillo

In addition to the Deep Impact v Armageddon discourse, the year before, there was two movies about volcanoes: Dante's Peak and Volcano. Dante's Peak, much like Deep Impact, was the more realistic, humane, scientifically accurate portrayal of the disaster it was covering.

Joey Tovar

Great pick! I’ll be right back to watch!

Carol Rocha

This was a great movie. I agree, it's crazy that they were out so close together. I agree with you, which one I prefer would depend on the mood, I guess. Armageddon had kind of a humorous element, Deep Impact more serious. More people certainly died in the latter. I think the one thing that sucks about Deep Impact is that it does have an ENTIRELY happy ending. Bittersweet, happy, with a big dose of sadness. Thinking about mass evacuations...it doesn't feel like many people would make it anywhere, just like in the movie. Just got stuck in grid locked traffic and die anyway! There was one scene where--as in others--you saw hundreds of people trying to outrun the tidal wave and the one elderly guy that knew better. He was going one way or the other, might as well just face it. A lot of those movies you had mentioned/watched recently were all great movies, for sure...some a little more mind-bending than others (I'm looking at you, Inception!!) The Martian was great--also had funny parts. Interstellar was great. Téa Leoni is awesome...just one of those dreamy eye-talian girls 😉! I know I've seen her in a number of things, but the only thing that comes to mind is she played Adam Sandler's wife in Spanglish (2004). She's also in the the 3rd Jurassic Park--don't think you've gotten to that one yet, not sure I've even seen it. Robert Duvall (Fish) has been in TONS of stuff. Again...can't remember all the things I've seen him, but for his iconic line in "Apocalypse Now" (1979--Vietnam War epic): "...I love the smell of napalm in the morning!" That movie is a classic with a STACKED cast! For a happier Happy (Jon Favreau) movie you should check out "Chef" (2014) It's a nice father/ young son (that he shares with ex-wife Sofia Vergara) movie. Or...for another look at young Jon Favreau, there is "The Replacements" (2000).

Marc Lamoureux

Not that this is 💩, this is a good movie but she is making me disappointed lately She said she promises one thing to happen one time and goes in a completely different direction Her rewatches of harry potter are taking forever and she said she'd start the original star wars again to prepare for the mandalorian

Karl Kraus

First watch for me. Lots of storylines and people to root for. No Aerosmith in this one however.

Boom Bam

IMO. Deep Impact was way better than Armageddon. Armageddon was just a silly Rom/Com with a daddy daughter drama and a doomsday plot twist.

Steven Garcia

👎🏻👎🏻. Amber you are my favorite reactionary person and the only one I pay for but you watch a lot of 💩.

Dennis Fawcett

Making it the 2nd best asteroid movie of 98 😂

Dennis Fawcett

If you want a hyper-realistic end-of-the-world movie, you can try the British film "Threads" (1984), which deals with the aftermath of a nuclear war. It is fascinating, but it is very bleak.

Duke Pootentooter

It really does!

Amber Walker

Deep Impact came out in May of 98, and Armageddon was in July. Armageddon box office 554 million vs 350 million for Deep Impact.

nevrbluffs

It surprises me how many Americans don’t realize they’re literally standing on top of a super volcano 😆

Richard C

Same.

Richard C

Yes, Armageddon was action driven but this film speaks to the heart and many ways grounded in the human experience. Deep Impact is my favorite of the two films.

Anthony Caples

Asides from asteroids, the other ELE threat (that is natural) is what lies under Yellowstone Nat'l Park, a caldera or super volcano. North America would be in deep tapioca if it let loose.

nevrbluffs

Oh I love this one!! I give Armageddon the edge just because of that cast!! But I also love this film and it's cast. The movie 2012 is along this same lines too. Also a good movie. Now you have to do Volcano with Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche.

Jayce

Awesome!! I love a good end of the world story! And if a giant asteroid was heading for the planet, I would do what Tea Leone did. Stand right in front of the giant tsunami. 🌊

Richard C

I’ve never even heard of this one. Should be interesting

MadeByMali

YESSSSS Amber im so glad you watched this it's my absolute fave disaster movie, it just has so much heart

Charlieeee
