Writing Article - Planning (Forged Destiny Example)
Added 2018-06-29 17:15:59 +0000 UTCI've had so many people struggle with planning that I wanted to go into a little more detail, despite having covered it before. Here is something special; a sneak preview of what my beta, College Fool, typically sees whenever I plan a story.
This is my actual plan for Book 3 of Forged Destiny - and while it's not necessary for you to have read that, it will help a little. This is what I made before I wrote a single chapter of Book 3, and it's what I relied on to write the whole thing.
There are a few things to note:
`1) Some things have been removed or redacted as spoilers. These are far-reaching meta plans that only College Fool and I share.
2) This plan is annotated with comments, which appear on the right-hand side, explaining some of what each section is and how I write it. While these are instructions, the actual content of the plan itself is the biggest gift I can give here, as it shows you exactly how I planned each chapter.
3) No plan survives contact with the enemy. This was the plan made before the book, and certain aspects did change in writing. This is normal and to be expected. An example would be that Watts' inclusion was decided halfway through, and so he is not mentioned here. That said, nothing about the actual plan changed - just the inclusion of an additional character.
