It's your first chance to both engage the reader, but also make them fall in love with your character. Here I look at the important things to include in a first chapter, wth examples from my work and also other fiction.
In future articles we'll start to look at chapter composition in other ways, but this article is mostly about the first and how to improve your chances of having readers want to find out more.
