[Announcement]
Added 2022-09-18 11:15:18 +0000 UTCHi, y'all. So... unfortunately I got some more bad news. :/
So as it turns out, the motherboard I got is not compatible with the Threadripper PRO 5000WX series processors. It's possible to make it compatible by updating its BIOS, but doing so requires you to use an older processor that is compatible with the motherboard out-of-the-box, which I don't have.
With some help, I tried multiple times to circumvent this by using the BIOS FlashBack on the back of the motherboard, but this also did not work. There's also a possibility that these multiple attempts might have bricked the motherboard.
As such, I decided to order a new motherboard that is fully compatible with Threadripper PRO 5000WX processors without having to update its BIOS. And when I say a new motherboard, I mean new. This thing was apparently only released to the public this month. It also has an advantage over the other motherboard in that it actually has a display port built in, which should make it easier to do some troubleshooting if things go wrong.
So yeah, I'm going to have to disassemble my current computer build and then build a new one once the new motherboard arrives. In the meantime, I'll go back to working on the game.
I am so incredibly sorry about this. :(

No worries. I just wanted you to understand that I'm not building this PC to have the most amazing rig ever, but to have a machine that will improve my work.

2022-09-19 08:46:38 +0000 UTCIt’s how you learn. You can’t find out without fucking around. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, as long as you learn from it.

2022-09-18 23:17:58 +0000 UTCSimple answer. No. Stupid answer. God rays and ray tracing was just becoming a thing in my fourth year, I think. Fallout 4 came out and everything was about god rays but the animation never had us use them since the 3d modeling class was supposed to teach us and they had us seniors have to apply that to our senior thesis while taking that class. So no. Fad before Fallout 4 was Last of Us because my texture applications professor wanted us to study the textures and animations but he focused on rain and brick while my single animations class had us focus on fabrics, flame, fluids, 'wind', movement, action like fighting and camera angles, and stuff I cannot remember. And the school got rid of that class. I'd guess that adds up to an hour on rendering when light sources using god rays would be added. Maybe five.

2022-09-18 22:33:52 +0000 UTCIt seems I cannot reply to messages on mobile. How long did you renders used to take? Not compared to now just before. An hour long animation with 1000 poly characters and a school full of hundred or less poly objects took five hours on my laptop. My new computer could handle same scene in an hour or less, in theory.

2022-09-18 22:28:47 +0000 UTCBecause there's a big difference between a good gaming rig that can play the latest game on ultra settings and a proper 3D rendering workstation. My previous computer could play most games at max settings just fine, while rendering 3D scenes would take several hours. I need a workstation that minimize render times, since that will improve my workflow whenever I make art or graphical assets for the game. As for why I bought this motherboard, it's because I had to. It's the only motherboard currently on the market capable of running my CPU out-of-the-box and that has almost all of the features of the motherboard I had first intended to use.

2022-09-18 22:17:24 +0000 UTCDon't count this as a jab at you but a jab at consumer basis. Why did you buy something just released to the public? Why does anyone? Because soon after comes the swarm of people complaining about wanting their money back. Personally, i look at a video game I like. Check what is needed and look for that. And I aim for something that is supposed to be super heavy on a computer like FFXV when it first came out. I know this is a game your creating but I am more wondering about why you didn't look at something like specifications for something played on ultra settings. And I cannot name any because I am five years put of the game community loop. Sorry if this comes off as aggressive or bitey or something bad. Part vent and mostly lament clouding a question I didn't just ask in a direct manner.

2022-09-18 19:56:08 +0000 UTCBelieve me, we tried everything, including resetting the CMOS battery and using a correctly formatted flash drive. We even tried installing different BIOS versions.

2022-09-18 19:11:02 +0000 UTCI've never ever heard of a motherboard needing a chipset-compatible processor to update the bios. All you need is for the CMOS battery to not be dead. But it's still probably easier to just get a different motherboard if updating the bios is proving difficult or confusing to the point where you fear you might "brick" a motherboard. If you ever want to use that motherboard, you can look up youtube videos for how to run through the process of formatting a flash drive to FAT16/FAT32, and you can find the bios update on ASUS' website. The Sage is a good board, so if you can update the bios it would make a great board to use in tandem. Or you could just sell it lol.

2022-09-18 11:53:52 +0000 UTCI kinda figured as much, my buddy had that happen to him last year. Glad to see you got a plan though! And no more apologizing for your own misfortunes. It’s life.
