En's Weekly Thoughts:

I'm back from Twitchcon and it was a pretty fun time, despite all the bullshit that was happening at the actual convention. I made a point this year of intentionally just focusing on the people that I know and care about instead of driving myself crazy at the thought that I need to meet everyone who might know who I am and also hardcore "network" with other people in the community. I've genuinely never been one to really be good at any of that.

I want you to stop me if I'm sounding arrogant with what I'm about to say: I've always kind of prided myself on the fact that I genuinely never really cared to try to do things for the sake of appealing to people and moreso just operated in a way where I would do my own thing and like-minded people who vibed with me would naturally just gravitate towards me in the process. I say that specifically because I always realize how little I have in common with other people in the communities I'm mainly a part of (Vtubers/streamers) whenever I go to conventions in that they're all very young and still figuring themselves out. It's hard to feel any kind of connection with a group of people who care more about being the loudest/funniest person in the room instead of actually talking to people as, like, actual people. I know that sounds super arrogant but it's largely the reason why I stick to the circle that I have.

With that said, I really particularly enjoyed this year because I kept it low-key -- played cards with friends, went to bars together to just chat. Nothing too outlandish, but it was the best Twitchcon I had ever had if only because I realized those little moments are what all of this is all about: connecting with other people and sharing these intimate moments of friendship and connection and community.

It's been a hellish work week for me so I need to get back to it, but I hope you're all doing well and hanging in there.
