When it comes to writing my stories, I always like to write characters as grey, having both positives and negatives. Guy, in this situation, when he first saw Lee, how much he wanted to prove himself. Guy saw someone who could become strong and survive if they were taught, but most importantly, Guy, in a way, saw himself in Lee, so Guy decided to teach Lee something he never bothered teaching Neji and TenTen because in Guy’s eyes, Lee can’t use chakra and has to rely solely on Taijutsu, so to him, teaching Lee the gates is simply closing the gap and making it fair between Lee and everyone else, since almost everyone else can use Chakra, and Lee can’t, but despite that, Guy does spend more time teaching Lee than he does with Neji and TenTen.

2023-09-14 12:54:43 +0000 UTCAm I the only one who finds it was kinda shitty how Guy played favourites with his teachings here ? He has clearly taught something to Lee he has not offered the chance to learn to his other students. It kind of taints his supposed want for hard work to triumph over natural talent seeing as that result only really matters if the playing field is otherwise levelled, playing favourites compromises the result and shows nepotism wins over natural talent, not hard work.
