Making a simple minigame

Hi!

It's time for another post about developing the game.

Let me remind that I want to create a simple game to look at the finished animations and evaluate the game mechanics. The game will consist of only one scene, with tiny witches appearing endlessly. The task of the shrunken witch hunter is to survive as long as possible. As the hunter wins, his powers will increase. I originally wanted to make the witches' powers also increase over time. But it turned out that this is not very easy to do, so I didn't bother.

In general, as it turned out, the IFAction engine that I'm using is not so good. Despite its simplicity and convenience, the engine has a lot of flaws. First of all, the game can only be made for Windows. Secondly, you can't change the screen resolution and aspect ratio during the game. Third, you can only control the game with the keyboard (no gamepad support), and the control keys can not be changed during the game. Fourth, there are a lot of other small bugs which can't be fixed because the engine's support service hasn't been working for a year.

Perhaps I will make the final version of the game on some other engine, and IFAction will be used for testing. Or, I'll make a sequel on another engine and finish the first part the way I started. I haven't decided what to do yet. In any case, I still have some time to think about it, as it's still a long way to finish the project.

I've already done the graphic interface of the minigame. Now I need to add sounds and music. I also want to insert some kind of picture when the main character is defeated. As it turned out after talking to Patreon support, the image I wanted to insert contains unacceptable sexual violence. Apparently, Patreon's rules have gotten stricter lately. In order to publish my game and game content on Patreon, I have to abide by its rules. Therefore, I have to remake the image.

All in all, the test minigame build is slowly coming to an end, and I will publish it soon. After that, I'll get to work on creating the scenery for the game scenes.

Thanks to everyone who supports me!

With love, Helen.
