The couched language, dog whistles, and subtleties everyone else misses; the indignities, slights, and suspicions; the immediate assumption that we’re unintelligent and inept until proven otherwise; the casual dehumanization; being treated like we belong to a separate (and inferior) species; the literal life-threatening consequences. It’s exhausting to have to be so hyper vigilant all the time, from as early as kindergarten. Meanwhile, people like Rob get to live their whole lives moving through the world without an ounce of racial consciousness, head in the clouds, and then get to act brand new (or worse, defensive and angry like Bill 😀🔪) when we tell them like it is. And it really is that passivity from white “friends” that hurts the worst - even more than the overt racism. The things they let slide, the way they will do anything to avoid having substantive conversations about racism, and how it’ll be completely at your expense. I totally relate to Deano when he identified Rob’s failure to act as the root of the issue. “You did nothing.” Absolutely gutting. Tbh this is the one thing that frustrates me about Noelene. Bc why would you marry and have a child with a man who has put zero effort into understanding your lived experience as a racialized person… Acting all embarrassed bc he’s been exposed as an ignoramus, gotta scramble to teach him the basics bc he’s got the emotional intelligence of a fcking boulder - ma’am please!

I also think she loves that it annoys Evelyn so much. And then Dale is just using her to hide the fact that he's gay - as he does with most things.

I emphasized feeling that way because he had never taken to time to give Noelene her just do when given the opportunity. So I dont know if he's rewlly down for the team through thick and thin or down for the team when there's benefits for himself

I’m sorry! 🥴 Idk there’s just something about her facial expressions and the way she slinks around like a snake. I can’t shake the feeling that she’s up to something, she truly gives me the creeps! 😭 I just can’t figure out what her motivations are yet…

2026-02-28 06:44:44 +0000 UTCFun fact: The scene in episode 3 where Dale finds Helen after she's been sent home from work and she's spiralling, was all improvised. Anna Torv talked about it on an interview for an Australian podcast. They just set up the cameras and the room and let Sam and Anna improv the whole thing. I find that incredible, especially given how intense and brilliant Helen is in it. Both so talented.

2026-02-27 23:38:06 +0000 UTCDale wanted the Chinese story to be on News at Six. He was fighting for it and told Lindsay to run it. It was Lindsay who said no and delayed as usual. So that's why Dale was mad when he saw the story on Helen's show. He was mad at Lindsay and shooting that look towards his office. No reason to be mad at Dale about that story really. I still really believe that Kay is just using Dale to get attention and to up her profile, and to piss off Evelyn. And Dale is using her to cover the fact that he's gay. As someone in Ireland with zero interest in basketball it's crazy to hear you say that most basketball players are black playing for white owners. That never would've hit me before even though I do know there's a lot of black players. The parallels with slavery are crazy. I really love how the show deals with the subtleties of racism, sexism and homophobia. It's so well written and acted.

I don't really use social media much now aside from more locked-down stuff like this where I can live in obscurity. I definitely hooked onto the negative too hard for that sort of thing to work in my life. You're awesome, and we love you for exactly what you show us you are in this context. Don't ever change for anyone but you and your closest people.

Lacking hate isn’t enough, when the world is built to cater to you at the expense of others. Passively letting that continue is supporting and enabling bigotry. Maybe instead of assuming that speaking up for his teammates would make things worse (conveniently the easy low-confrontation option), Rob could have quietly talked to Deano, said “hey that’s fucked up and I saw it”, and asked him if it was OK to speak up for him in moments like that.
