Borden was at that Tesla public demonstration. He saw it as a way to dress up his act with electricity arcing around. He also figured it would be a good misdirection and way to get Angier to waste his time and money.

2026-02-26 19:13:04 +0000 UTCAhh ok, I was under the impression that when they wrote the diary the omission of what knot was tied was 1 of two things ..they both either truly forgot or they wanted to keep it from him to continue to fuck with hughs mind..but initially neither one of them despised hugh so I figured it was truly an accident..but I could be wrong

2026-02-25 15:16:31 +0000 UTCLastly, think back about tying the knot for Angiers' wife . . . When he's repeatedly asked which knot he tied, he says he didn't know. He really didn't know bc it was his brother that did it. You can see genuine sadness and guilt on his face when he's asked about it multiple times. Although it does make me wonder that they wouldn't discuss it as brothers so they would both know.

2026-02-25 13:53:44 +0000 UTCIt's so fun on a rewatch because you catch so many things like Cutter saying he'd make the drunk guy look like his brother, Borden giving his daughter (or another kid?) the double sided coin with the same man on each side, Sarah knowing that sometimes he means that he loves her and sometimes he doesn't. While Algiers went much further in his quest to the point of duplicating and killing himself over and over (wasn't the show for 100 nights?), but Borden/Fallon shared lives so that they each lived half a life in a way. You can see that one of the twins is often cruel and harsh while the other is more loving and kind. I'm glad to see that the twin who was hanged was the former AND that the twin who lived was actually the little girl's father. Or maybe the twins seemed different in personality bc when we would see them sometimes they were pretending to be one another and pretending to love another woman.

Sending him to Tesla was basically a way to waste his time . . . send him on a wild goose chase of sorts . . . it also allows him and us to believe Borden and Fallon are scientific doubles not biological doubles. If that makes sense. It's a classic misdirection. But yeah, Algiers obsession and Tesla actually being able to duplicate leads to the rest of it.
