I definitely think Sookie would develop interest in Eric without the blood influence. Doesn’t make it ok, but of course there are a lot of grey areas in a vampire show.

But in later seasons, I remember feeling like I had to do the heavy lifting for the show by saying: hey, so that was actually fucking abuse. So please call it as you see it, like you did here.

2026-02-20 00:38:32 +0000 UTCMy obligatory True Blood warning: the show has great storylines, but it gets an F grade for how it handles consent, revoked consent, and abuses of power. The show *sometimes* acknowledges that what you’re seeing is wrong or abusive, but it expects you to be very selective in who you hold accountable. The long term impact of some of the assaults are nonexistent. Idk if it’s a writer issue, or if the characters themselves don’t understand the extent of what happens to them. Either way, the show doesn’t usually handle it well enough for me.
