A few contextual things to note: 1. They only see each other when they play against each other so Ilya inviting Shane to his home is Boston is HUGE! 2. This is the first time Shane has been in Ilya’s home and the first time they get to actually hang out. 3. This encounter is Ilya’s husband audition. He’s trying to open up to Shane, he stocks food for him, buys Shane’s favorite drink (side note Shane can’t get a ginger ale anywhere else the rest of the ep), Ilya puts on hockey to make Shane comfortable etc. Ilya was desperately waiting for and excited for this weekend and opening up to be vulnerable, then he slips and calls Shane by his first name and Shane flees. Shane is like woah too real. Shane realizes he really likes Ilya and doesn’t believe that they can truly be anything together so he bolted. If you watch again, Ilya is so confused and heartbroken after they do what they do on the couch. Lol After this (from Ilya’s perspective) Shane flees, then immediately gets THE most high profile girlfriend ever that he can be very public with and is showing her off all over Montreal. And we see in the locker room that Shane and Ilya haven’t spoken since the tuna melt incident. Then Ilya goes out to forget about Shane because they both played terribly in the game because they were messed up about each other. Ilya then sees Rose‘s friend and knows that Shane must be there and then retaliates by finding a girl of his own. It’s Hella toxic, but mostly sad. Upon rewatch if you listen to the lyrics to the Tatu song, they were edited match exactly what is happening on screen
