It really helps to convey the idea of how his popularity and sway in school and the community allow people to be totally blind to how fucked up he actually is.

I think people dont engage with him enough most fail to remember that he is still a child just like Cassie and he can show case a level of benevolent misogyny but ultimately he is just doing what he was taught a good man should do and be. His storyline is literally how it does not always set him up for success in the way his father taught he wont even let him express his doubts or feelings to a boy calling him the nword. The outcome is this and how it is destroying him and the relantionships he seeks to be in especially as a black boy. But also fuck nate truly, I can say the same for him but he can kiss my ass.
