The Ghorman massacre is A+ storytelling on all fronts. An absolutely amazing episode. The Ghormans singing their national song reminds me of the scene in Casablanca when they sing La Marseillaise. The Ghorman language is based on French after all. So much emotions when you watch, because you can parallel it to what is happening in the US. (btw, many of the people in the Casablanca scene I referenced were actual refugees from Europe due to WW2. It's one of the many reasons why that scene is so powerful.) https://youtu.be/cOeFhSzoTuc?si=AWhu0bOxF5IbeDkm

Everything about the Ghorman Massacre just fuckin destroyed me. The propaganda set in place before they ever even began mining, the false flag ops using the actual rebels, deceiving everyone on all sides, to the wholesale slaughter and occupation and eventual destruction of a planet....and then Syril. Ripple effects, consequences and dominoes. The last thing that went thru Syril's mind, ya know before that blaster bolt did, was the realisation that he was never as important as he thought he was. The sting of reality, that life is so much bigger than just you, that there is so much more than just your little goings ons, just before the final sting of death. It's beautiful writing that Cassian would have not the slightest clue who Syril was and that Dedra was at the helm for this moment of it.
I think the pause before Syril's death, his lowering the weapon, somebody else said it first in the comments but I for sure felt like he would have raised it and followed thru too. I think the pause was shock and realisation--I could genuinely hear Syril thinking to himself, "How could you not know?" And not even from a place of ego or narcissism but this, like u said Taco, consumed him so much that it's inconceivable to him that Cassian wouldn't at least know who he is. Like, insane. This chunk of episodes was 10 outta 10. And Mothma's follow up speech was immaculate. The chills this season of Andor gave were nonstop next level. Anyways, just my thoughts on this block of episodes... and yes this continues to be all too relatable to the real external world, even now.
Rebellions are built on hope.
(Yea, hiring snipers to fire at ur own ppl....I feel...I KNOW I've seen that somewhere before...name's on the tip of my tongue, just out of EARSHOT, but I know I've seen it before...😏😏😉🤷🏿♂️🙃😁😁✌🏾✌🏾)

I think Syril still would’ve shot Cassian in a few seconds. He was just momentarily shocked by Andor not knowing him, the dichotomy of their relationship.

Like others will say - I have been so excited to see your reaction to these particular episodes!!! Episode 8 is quite possibly the most important episode of TV out there right now.
On ep 8: Dedra absolutely never had a chance. Her parents probably weren’t actually criminals. They were just the Empire’s definition of “criminal”. Being raised by the Imperials allowed them to indoctrinate her without resistance. Her whole life has been the Empire. She was raised without the morality that Syril holds on to far too tightly, to the point that he unwittingly distorts it and learns too late that he’s been on the wrong side. His ambition to succeed, driven by the abandonment of his father and the constant disparagement from his mother, blinded him. His story is so sad because he had so much potential to do good if he could only see past the blinders he had on. And when he did, it was too late. I agree with your use of “insignificant” - because that’s how Syril felt in that moment. But also like you said, we’re all significant to someone. Despite her harm, his mother truly did love her son - she just held on to him too tightly too.
When the episode first aired, it felt like a mirror on Palestine. My understanding is the writers used the Tlatelolco massacre (Mexico City, 1968) as their inspiration. Rewatching this while living in Minneapolis during a federal occupation, it feels like another mirror. The Ghorman senator being arrested by the Stormtroopers in ep 9 says “No warrant! No charges!” and we *literally* have that happening on a daily basis here. They’re using the same playbook. Watching this again was like a checklist - ✅ that’s happened ✅ they did that ✅ they’re doing that. I could say A LOT more on the subject, but I’ll leave it there.
On ep 9: Mothma’s speech is incredible and gives me chills. It’s seen on the Senate feed, which I believe is available to the news networks across the Galaxy, but it doesn’t get broadcast to everyone else because the networks are all controlled by the Empire. This is why the Rebel Alliance wants Mon to make another speech, so they can broadcast it to a wider audience without Empire suppression and inspire more people to join the Rebellion. The decision to have Mon Mothma be brought in by an “official” Rebel squadron instead of Cassian is to tie it into an episode of Star Wars: Rebels, which takes place at the same time as Andor. She gives the speech from the Gold Squadron ship in Rebels. (If you decide you want to watch more Star Wars properties, let us Patrons know and we can give you some recommendations for watch order.)

I just looked at the 2 Star Wars films you’ve already watched and I think this will be helpful:
* ABY and BBY is the Star Wars dating system.
* BBY = Before the Battle of Yavin
* ABY = After the Battle of Yavin
The first movie that ever came out was A New Hope, which you watched. That movie includes the Battle of Yavin.
Because it’s the first Star Wars property, and there are films and shows that take place in both the past and the future of the OG trilogy, they base the years off of what came before the first movie and what came after.
I’m not going to give you the full timeline because it’s a lot. But for context with what you’ve watched and played:
- Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order (Cal Kestis) = BBY 14
- Star Wars: Survivor (Cal Kestis) = BBY 9
- Andor S1 = BBY 5
- Andor S2 = BBY 4 thru BBY 1
- A New Hope = Battle of Yavin
- The Empire Strikes Back = ABY 3
The events in Andor S2 episodes 10-12 take place in BBY 1, and lead directly into Rogue One (also BBY 1). Which is why everyone wants you to watch it after Andor lol 😹
Also, a nice Easter egg is that the planet Yavin, which is where the Rebel Alliance is forming and Cassian, Bix, Wilmon and Vel now live on, is the planet that Cassian was briefly stranded on with the incompetent rebel cell at the start of the season.

I've been waiting for ep 8, it's my fav for you to see. For the EXACT reaction you had.
You're right, when Cassian and Syril walk past each other but miss each other is like, shiiit.
You can see Syril is slightly conflicted now when bumping into the dad, he knows Dedra is keeping something from him and they're reporting on it incorrectly, but he's not sure what to do.
Dedra. "Following orders". Loads of people try and succeeded in using this as an excuse for committing atrocities, as I'm sure you're aware. You're right, her upbringing in the Imperial lends her towards thinking she's right. And Syril, he wanted a job to do what he grew up to know as right, but now things are completely out of their hands.
When Syril saw Cassian... I have been WAITING. Cassian didn't ever know who Syril was, but Syril had spent years looking for him. Syril was nothing to him. Cassian was his original failure, everything led him here and he fucked over an entire planet in the end due to his continued drive for what he desired. Dedra didn't even know he was lost until afterwards. I don't think she realised the impact it's have on her.
Consequences of their actions came for their arses.

This is exactly what needs to happen, and it needs to sit in the Andor collection and not Star Wars 😬

There was a moment (as you can see in my comment from yesterday) that I thought this was the last trio of episodes and that you FINISHED finished. Then, I remembered it's 12 episodes and the schedule is going to make us wait an eternity. I guess the positive side of that is that it's not over yet? Please watch Rogue One. I haven't seen it, and I want to finish the arc with you.

This group of episodes and 10-12 are just legendary in cinema history. The fact that Star Wars went this radical at a time when we *really* needed it, ahhhh. I just love it. Your commentary, as always, incredible.
Do you plan to watch Rogue One after you finish 12? I hope so. It’s seamless from the finale and is the completion of Cassian’s story (just remember it was filmed about a decade before this show, so the show is really a prequel).
I can’t wait til you get to episodes 10-12!!
