I LOVE your reaction!!! I read these ages ago (in the 90s... ~gasp~) and the last part totally broke me. The last book was my least favorite by far. Jacob made it MUCH easier to take. As soon as I saw him, I cried, but I remember saying how glad I was that it was him. His being picked for the part softened the blow, so to speak.

The author of the Sandman stories is the same guy who wrote the novel American Gods. With that said, American Gods is much faster paced, funnier, and very different in tone (more upbeat less dreamy...yet still frequently touching darkness). But similar in the way that it addresses the biggest, most profound questions and mysteries of life and the human condition. Except American Gods is much more direct in addressing issues like racism and religion -- and how modern concepts like media and are technology becoming/replacing religion...it's so deep and different and a wild ride. There's nothing like it.

Dream of 1000 cats especially is great. Really builds the mythology aspect of the series!

Now that you’ve done the show you should go back and watch the bonus episodes cause they aren’t gonna make season 3 this was the end of the comic run
