As a product of the Catholic school system and a child raised in a Baptist household, when McConnaughey is talking about the ppl at church, shit, some of the best ppl I know are atheists or just don't give a shit about religion or gods. Most of the worst ppl I've ever met are the most vile kind of hypocrite, if nothing else than how they act based on what they claim to believe and serve/worship. I mean he's out of line and rude as hell about it....but he ain't exactly alllll the way wrong. Just my personal opinion/potential hot take. Im also biased since I made a similar argument my sophomore yr of high school to the nun teaching and before she stormed out of the class in a rage and a huff, she damned me to hell(fave life memory of all time). So I was a little... excited to hear him say these things πππ

2025-04-06 16:35:21 +0000 UTCI like what you said, Raymond (your specific example about religion used wrongly) as it ties in exactly to what Rust is saying (Rust is saying a lot of things in episode 3, but particularly when he is saying "one monkey looked at the sun", etc.). Religious orders can't be questioned by design. As you said, this doesn't make religion 'bad'...but the capacity for potential abuse is limitless.
