ADOLESCENCE EP 1 REACTION

ADOLESCENCE EP 1 REACTION

Comments

You know, it's funny. In that moment when Jamie and Eddie are alone first in the station and Jamie breaks down, my thoughts the whole time were "Hug him for god sake! Comfort him... Why isn't he putting his arm around him or something?". While you commented that he was trying to be strong for his son. I think that feeds into some of the issues raised in the show about masculinity etc. Just think that's interesting and wonder what other men and women were thinking in that moment. Not judging or anything btw so i hope it doesn't come across like that. I just found it fascinating. It's such a good show - amazing acting from everyone, great writing, really important issues raised, and the one shot filming is incredible.

🚨🚨🚨 SPOILER-ISH For him to do what he does in episode 3 and have this be his first acting role . . . absolutely speechless.

Melissa

Not sure where you live, but I actually felt like the depiction of the police in this British series was so much more flattering in terms of protocol and behavior than what I see depicted in America, both on TV and what we hear about in real life.

Melissa

The way his dad goes from turning away from him after the CCTV to turning and embracing him. Breaks my damn heart.

Melissa

I love how dad goes from defending Jaime in the interview to β€œanswer the question” once the cctv images start coming out.

Valaree

The juxtaposition of Jaime being afraid of needles vs what he’s being accused of doing to his classmate 😬

Valaree

Such an amazing series! To answer your questions at the beginning about what the police could legally do, I mean yeah if they’re breaking the door down and have a warrant to arrest the kid and search the premises then that indicates they have strong evidence to support the suspicion and they can and will make a mess searching for any physical evidence and really the parents don’t have to be told anything until they get to the police station and the interrogations begin.

Lisa

he is amazing, hard to believe its his first ever acting job!!

Olivia

AFTER YOU FINISH THE WHOLE SERIES . . . I highly recommend this podcast episode (about 37 minutes). They are two of my fav podcasters who discuss TV and film. They always bring a fresh, insightful perspective that is much needed & they do so even more exceptionally in discussing this series. https://youtu.be/OcM-od_uV6M?si=3jLwcfxCsFxdswmH

The writing is incredible. The way it takes our natural instinct to protect and have empathy for Jamie because he is a child, to then slowly realising (at exactly the same time as the dad) the horror of it all. Stephen Graham (dad) is truly one of the greatest actors we have here in the UK but it blows my mind that the boy playing Jamie had never acted professionally before this. Enjoy the next three episodes because every one is a masterpiece in tv making!

They make so many interesting choices in the interrogation scene by keeping the pictures of the women on his Instagram distant from the viewer. I can't really tell if the pictures are a certain type of image that may suggest Jamie's sexual interests. The CCTV is also a bit far away from us as the viewer. I had to watch it twice and zoom in to see what is happening. It's still hard to tell exactly what he's doing, but they've said she was stabbed, which seems to track based on what we see even though it's at a bit of a distance. I thought he was hitting her initially, but it could be stabbing. I also like how they established that Bascombe also has a teenage son who is trying to get out of going to school. It gives more weight to that character and how he may be impacted by this because he has a son himself. It's absolutely heartbreaking to watch. I'm so glad you gave this a shot. It's very much in the zeitgeist right now, so I would def get it on YT as you said. Many people are talking about it in a lot of spaces.

Melissa

Omg! Great reaction as always Taco, you're going to be shocked at this series! That kid's acting is WILD!

Victoria

Really? Hiding cuts is a popular trick directors have gotten Really well at hiding. Did they actually state it was all one cut? That's makes it even more remarkable i figured it was just edited and clipped to seems like 1

Raymond Walker

all 4 episodes were filmed as a single shot, no cuts at all! truly unbelievable stuff!!

Olivia

I watched because of you Melissa πŸ™πŸΏβ™₯️ ENJOY 😁

Raymond Walker

OMG! I'm thrilled that you're reacting to this. It's a heavy show, so it's weird to be excited, I guess. I just know you'll bring so much to the issues addressed in the series. 🧑
