I _think_ his therapist def knows Hannibal is psychopath-adjacent and dangerous, maybe suspects him of nefarious deeds, but doesn’t know exactly.

Ohhh I get it! That totally makes sense because the scenes are designed to make you feel that anxiety or discomfort of being underwater. I feel this similarly with scenes that feel claustrophobic. Just watching them feels like it's hard to breathe. Like Kill Bill when she's in the box or Game of Thrones when crowds are being crushed together. Freaks me out 😅.

Abel Giddeon got Chilton, though, not Hannibal.

So very true about surviving Hannibal being an ongoing process!!! :D And it’s so much fun to both watch this through FoxTaco’s unspoiled eyes and also with other Fannibals.

Sure he can, he's 10 episodes ahead of everybody else! That was a very accurate assessment you made.
The question is, which characters are clever enough to see AND survive him, and which aren't? (RIP Abigail Hobbs, Miriam Lass, and Tobias.)

I'm crazy about Bedelia. I can't take my eyes off her when she's on screen. Gillian Anderson shows us SO MUCH in her calculated demeanor.

YES, the Vide Cor Meum gave me CHILLS and I think I shrieked out loud when it played in the finale because of course I remember that utterly GORGEOUS piece from Hannibal. BEAUTIFUL and haunting song!
I think all three season finales are the best of their season, and each one outdoes the previous one. But the S1 finale def had the highest payoff for movie fans with the SotL and Hannibal callbacks.

YES please watch S2 fast!! :)
Are you going to watch the movies after you're done with the show? They're different enough from the show that they deserve their own reactions.
ETA: Recommended order for the movies is skip Hannibal Rising, watch Red Dragon, then Silence of the Lambs, then Hannibal.

Actually the cancellation was already in the works before S3 had even aired. They placed S3 in the so called “death slot” of Fri at 10pm with virtually no promos compared to S1 & S2. Some NBC execs had strongly hinted to Bryan Fuller that he should not expect a renewal unless the first few S3 eps performed way above expectations, which they did not. This is why he changed the orig.S3 plans and squeezed in the RD storyline after the Florence/Verger stories.
Bryan decided to pattern the first half of S3 as Italian style horror films with an over the top style. I believe he did this as a “Oh yeah?, just watch” response to those who already criticized the show for being too arty & pretentious. IMHO since other shows of his had been abruptly cancelled, if he was getting the rug pulled out he wanted to make the show he wanted to see.

S3 has some of my favorite and least favorite eps, but I still prefer it to S1. The way I see it is the show becomes more gothic horror in S2-3 than the crime thriller it was previously, which I personally prefer.

But remember even if he takes a L, he will simply switch tracks to an alternate plan that eventually get him what he wants.
For consolation to the fans waiting for S2 to air one year later in 2014, Bryan Fuller used to post comments about S2 is when Will would fight back & dropping links to songs like Katy Perry’s Roar song

You mean the creepy in a supernatural way Will’s subconscious presented Georgia’s corpse giving him the clues to her killer? Or was it you not having the patience to listen to Hannibal’s pretentious litany of “chicken soup” specialness😁. I’m in your corner either way, cause everyone has certain triggers that make them nope out at moments. That just proves the psychological horror is working. I can’t rewatch 3 moments from the show myself, one from each Season. It’s taught me about certain things I feel too deeply to accept & why I can enjoy the horror on Hannibal but not on most other horror films.
Thank you for a fun reaction journey through Season one! Buckle up for Season 2, it is quite the ride, though with a lot of changes from S1❤️

Alright, finished. *deep breath* Obviously I'm very much looking forward to you starting on season 2! Hannibal is one of those rare beasts where it maintained or improved in quality over its entire run. Much as with (*broken record noises start*) IWTV, you come out of S1 blown away only to be blown away in new and different ways in S2. These two shows never let up for a minute and will make you want to binge every drop at once. They are genuinely my top two of all time, and it's always great to find others who are into the same dark and twisted shit I'm into 😆😆😆
As for Hannibal's mastermind tendencies, here's where I was at the end of S1 (never any spoilers from me): the impression of how clever and coolheaded he is builds over the season, and pretty universally people analogize it to him playing many steps ahead at chess. But for me, when they whip out the human remains in the lures, that's when I felt thunderstruck by the realization that there's no way he could have seen *exactly* how everyone would act for weeks and weeks in advance... so he doesn't just have ONE plan, he has MANY plans. Just like with his rolodex o' rude people to rifle through when he gets peckish - those have to be years of cards waiting for the right recipe. He's not playing ONE game of chess, he's got chess boards all around him for all scenarios. I don't think he necessarily started framing Will in ep 2 or 3 (especially because he didn't sniff out Will's encephalitis until later and that's a necessary part of how he framed him), he just is always filing away information, evidence, snippets of recorded conversations, body parts, CLOCK DRAWINGS and what have you so that as opportunities arise, he has the flexibility to shape and bend things to his will. We see how quick he is on his feet when people are asking him questions in real time, and I think he has that ability across the board. He can play god because he's always looking at every permutation and checking all the exits. When it comes to being a brilliant mastermind, Hannibal really is the 🐐. (Lestat can keep being the GOAT in other respects tho 😉)
Thank you for sharing with us, and Happy Holidays!

Glad you like this season, S2 is most people's favorite and whether you prefer S1 or S3 after S2 depends on whether you prefer the more procedural/crime elements or the development of the relationships between the characters - I initially loved S1 but now it's my least favorite season overall. The season finales and for S2 & 3 the mid-season finales too are always amazing, but watching when the show 1st came out with the threat of cancelation hanging over every season was painful, luckily it had an amazing ending though and is my favorite TV show ending, and the S2 finale is my favorite episode of TV in general. Can't wait for S2!

I have absolutely loved watching my favourite TV show through your eyes and am so thrilled that you've enjoyed it! The S1 finale is my favourite episode of television ever! That confrontation between Hannibal and Will in the Hobbs' kitchen is just a masterpiece of acting (and framing - especially the way that Hannibal's face is shot). And that final scene of Hannibal walking down the corridor towards Will's cell to the strains of 'Vide Cor Meum' (which is taken from the Hannibal film soundtrack) and the "Hello Will" "Hello Dr. Lecter" gets me EVERY time! So looking forward to watching S2 with you!

I am obsessed with your reaction to these last few episodes. Your anger and frustration is so on point. Of course, the character is fascinating - especially played by Mads - but I hate him so much. And I love Will Graham -- one of my favorite TV characters of all time, as played by Hugh Dancy. I think you'll lose your mind at the opening scene of S2!! S2 continues the cat and mouse game but in a much different way.
P.S. I'm so hyped when you give us a few episodes at once. Glad that your eyes are doing well enough that you are able to do so when you wish to. You're the best!
