Looking ahead to 1.1.3


1.1.3 we hope to deliver two large features to the Apex framework.

First is the Headless Client system. For other modes it is not so hard as they rely on vanilla AI. However for our custom AI systems it is a complex process to get everything right. Once active, the server will attempt to distribute about 35% (customizable) of the AI calculations to the Headless Client CPU, improving both the AI and also freeing up some calculations so the server can handle player net traffic more smoothly.


Second is the new Role Assignment system. This replaces the traditional multiplayer lobby. The player will spawn in directly and be able to select their role at base, enabling changing of role without aborting to the lobby. We will also support the ability to change sides/factions (from NATO to CSAT for instance) ingame, so if you choose to develop your own content in the framework, it doesnt have to be strictly COOP. It also allows us to balance roles better across different server player populations (so if there are 10 players on, 6 of them wont be pilots because all 6 pilot roles might not become available until there are 60 players on, for instance).

1.1.3 is expected to deliver before Christmas, with a target of November 30th. If we finish the above systems before then, we'll get to work adding more mission content (sub objectives, side missions, and even some unannounced custom missions scheduled for 1.1.5).
