As others have already pointed out, the cases are more spread out than they appear...but...also...if I were a serial killer, I would absolutely set up shop in the DC area...because while it might seem counterproductive to commit crimes so near the home base of the FBI, it is SMART to set up shop in an area that has the potential to be a jurisdictional nightmare so the cops are busy arguing over who is in charge instead of focusing their attention on you.
You can live in Maryland and drop a body in Virginia without leaving a travel paper trail...no flights necessary. Depending on where you drop a body (or...parts) you can have multiple agencies all fighting over who gets to investigate. Drop a leg in Virginia, an arm in Maryland, another leg in D.C., the torso on the Metro, a pile of organs on the Capital steps, an arm in a National Park, throw the head onto a Naval Base and...boom...you now have Maryland cops, Virginia cops. DC Metro, transit police, Capital Police, Parks officers, NCIS, AND the FBI all having to work together...often with a lot of bruised egos and a bunch of different agendas...and various skill levels so all of your crime scenes may not be processed with the same level of care. Chaos serves the perp.

one thing i'll say about this show: it is batshit insane. it only gets weirder and less believable the longer it goes on but that's something i love about it! if you dislike having to suspend disbelief i totally understand. i do find the show is best enjoyed when you as the viewer accept that it is just gonna have some nonsensical ass moments. it's kind of like a pretentious art film in that way. i truly love how this show bends genres and crosses boundaries

All caught up now and looking forward to watching some more of this with you :) Mads is a Danish treasure and it is written in the law that I have to love him, but I am happy to do so :) If it ever strikes your fancy, I have some Danish movies with him in lead roles that are definitely worth checking out! In international movies he is very often cast as the villain and rarely as cool as Hannibal, so he doesn't get to shine as much as he is able to imo :)

Oh absolutely he is! I watched him in a Danish crime show when I was just a teen and have loved him ever since.. :) He is such an amazing actor! So glad more people get to enjoy his talent after he went international <3

I hear that. The murders in this show are SO VERY over the top that they’re almost not scary because they’re outrageous and hard to believe. I can absolutely relate to being taken out of the show.
HOW did the angel-maker logistically climb up in the barn, tie himself suspended in the air, and open up his back like wings to end himself?
HOW did that old man make a human totem poll without being seen/heard (I assume he needed serious power tools) and at his old age? For that matter, he dug up the bodies of his older victims and nobody saw or heard that?
HOW does Hannibal kill people without being seen, and for that matter, WHEN does he even have time to grocery shop or sleep on top of his big staged killings, seeing patients, and consulting with the FBI? There’s not enough hours in the day for all that he does.
One I think she show does its best to convey is that Hannibal has unusually heightened senses (and that’s very clearly spelled out in the books). You saw his ear reacting to the soprano singer, he can smell illness, etc. I think him being a good fighter is partly because he’s so observant visually and could see how Tobias was leaning/moving and anticipate what Tobias was about to do with whatever his body language gave away as he was moving. As for how well Tobias fought, all we know is that he fantasized about killing Hannibal (and others) and for all we know, he practiced some attacks.
But yes, it can really take you out of the moment and suspend your belief!

I get why it's pretty hard to suspend disbelief that a whole choreographed Tekken match ensued 🤣. I guess the rationale behind it is that because both of them have very calculated kills, in order to ensure their victims don't get the upper hand they have trained in hand to hand combat and study some form of martial arts. They have to be physically fit to do what they do, especially since most of their victims are males. Most serial killers typically go for the vulnerable.

I have been to 2 dinners Janice Poon has hosted for Fannibals & she is funny, amazingly creative & super sweet! One dessert featured a “bloody” handprint across the plate made of a delicious raspberry sauce. Her blog, Feeding Hannibal, gives incredible details behind the shows filming & you should check it out when you finish the series❤️

Probably all of the damage he took was decided right after ye took his patients life. I was just taken aback by how amazingly well they both fought..it's was a great scene and demonstrates Hannibals amazing physical ability .but for a few moments it did take me out of the episode

Also, if you watch that fight scene and focus on just Mads you can really see his athleticism and impressive control over his form. Someone already mentioned he was a dancer; if you have a moment, you check him out doing the can-can with some really nice tumbling around the 2 minute mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77My9qY2P44. There are other videos of him dancing from movies on there too, but sadly I feel like they spoil some things from those incredible movies that are definitely worth seeing in proper context. This man is an absolute mega-star in Denmark and his roles over there are just mind-blowing (after Hannibal I became a little bit obsessed for a while and could go on all day but I'll stop there).

About the fight scene: I think it was in there not just to look cool but to demonstrate Hannibal's physical prowess and fearlessness. He seems like a very cool, buttoned up professional, but they wanted to show what a vicious beast he can be when he needs to or when threatened. I also think there's a lot to ponder about Hannibal sending Will after Tobias mere minutes after Tobias casually vows to kill anyone who gets sent after him. Hannibal shows obvious relief and pleasure when he sees that Will isn't dead, so why would he send him into danger? I'd love to hear your thoughts on that, Taco!

Never understood that about serial killers. It just seems like so much WORK. You’re saying you do this shit every other weekend? Wouldn’t you rather sleep in?

Every time you refer to Jack as Morpheus it cracks me up.
Also the chef behind the scenes wrote a Hannibal cookbook that is bomb af. Her name is Janice Poon and she rules.

This is one of my favorite episode arcs.
Also: I don’t usually stress when you theorize, but I wanted to point out that the FBI has jurisdiction over serial killers. Episodes take place in multiple states and the show isn’t great about pointing out where anyone is at a given moment. Apparently Hannibal and Will live an hour apart? This string shop is in Maryland. Hobbs lived in Minnesota. The FBI academy is in Virginia. So it definitely strains credulity that all of these people would be in one place, but the show moves around without those location text cards that would be VERY helpful.

Hannibal's got moves, you see some more of it in S2 & S3 - and the actor that plays him was a professional dancer so that's why he can move like that.

How much of that fight do you think Hannibal was really fighting for his life, vs. how much he was letting the fight continue to gain defensive wounds and have evidence of a struggle in his office to try to throw off the FBI?
