A note on next-generation console support

this week the new consoles came out worldwide and we've been trying to figure out what's up with the data and how it ties into PlayTracker.

TLDR: XBOX Series X/S syncs, PS5 does not sync yet and we're working on it. This means estimates on Insight for cross-generation games on PlayStation are showing PS4-only numbers right now.

For XBOX:

While XBOX consoles are unavailable officially in our part of the EU so we haven't been able to get our hands on a physical console, some PlayTracker fans have told us that games they are playing on their new XBOX Series X and XBOX Series S consoles are showing up on their accounts normally. This correlates with the fact that Gears Tactics has seen a huge uptick in popularity, and makes sense given Microsoft's Smart Delivery system.

To summarize: it appears XBOX is simply pushing the new data where it's always been so seems we support the new XBOX consoles out of the box, no work required. Thanks Microsoft!

For PlayStation:

So, onto the bad news. We've finally gotten our hands on an actual PS5 yesterday when preorders finally started arriving here in Europe, and our testing seems to confirm what our North American friends have been telling us for a week - there's quite a mess on Sony's back-end (my.playstation is not showing PS5 games yet either) and so far neither our in-house sync solution nor the open-source API we use for certain parts of PlayTracker are grabbing PS5 games right now. This means estimates on Insight for cross-generation games on PlayStation are showing PS4-only numbers right now (which is why XBOX is dominating on the trending games chart).
