Cry Havoc updates, map updates, etc.
Added 2019-08-17 12:54:47 +0000 UTCHere is the post I should've written yesterday :P
I've uploaded the first chapter of The Valiant and the Bold as well as the first half of Cry Havoc! with commentary and notes and suchlike. At the moment, halfway done, Cry Havoc! has 13,000 words of commentary and explanations, some various bits of worldbuilding, and a TO&E for a Light Espatier platoon because of course it does. At this point, the Writing Dog Cry Havoc! also diverges from the SoFurry version:
- There is a new scene in Chapter 2 incorporating Verne's closer ties to the platoon
- I have corrected some naming issues with a few characters
- Most importantly, the weird subtext around Verne's history in the barracks, which had some unfortunate implications around abuse she might have suffered there, has been removed and her character growth is driven more or less exclusively by the platoon.
Now, on to a Real Patreon Exclusive. Attached is the current version of the rendering engine I use for the Cannon Shoals and Brave New World maps. The core of the engine (mapfunctions.js) is not documented because I'm not a good person. However, everything you would need to make a map of your own is documented in either csmap.html or in mapdatacs.js.
You can play around with this by making changes to the mapdatacs.js definitions file, for a start. If you want to build your own map from scratch, instructions are provided. You will need some means of generating KML files (Google Earth works for this) as well as the provided python script.
Strictly speaking you don't NEED the script, but it makes the process of extracting geocoordinates from the KML file easier.
This is predominantly a project for me, and something I use to make my life easier, so I cannot guarantee that it will work on your computer, or that it will work as you want it to on your computer, but if you have any questions I can try to answer them or help you :)

I shall have to mark these interesting things for later, as I have to work today and then give a training later, then keep working on cutting up a dead oak in my front yard tomorrow. No weekend for me. THESE ARE AWESOME AND I WANT TO SPEND TIME WITH THEM!
