Looks like you can see the parking lot from The top of the trail, I’m thinking they never made it to the top so they never saw where the parking lot was, this is so sad. It’s odd the rv park didn’t complain about their camper being parked without payment for those extra days:(

2023-06-04 04:34:32 +0000 UTCThis is something that always bothers me about people who lose the trail. Leaving the trail doesn't instantly put the trail out of sight, you have to walk a little bit. Persumably, in that time, you're aware that you're getting further and further from the trail, so you would think that it would register to be careful. In stories like this though, it sounds like the missing absentmindedly left the trail and wandered so far that they were hopelessly lost. But like you said, two older women would likely be more cautious than that. The only explanation I can come up with is that people have a really poor sense of direction and situational awareness. It sounds like people simply don't appreciate the terrain they're covering, or how long/far they've been off trail until they're utterly disoriented. And then they panic.

Your work is, as always, top notch, but this case is just frustrating. There was no reason that these two people should have died. If their dogs could survive for multiple days locked in a car, then these women had a fighting chance. This just feels like two people who had no business attempting even a basic hike. From going off trail, to losing the trail, to then wandering into a sea of nothingness, all they managed to do was double and triple down on bad decisions. It feels like they never took a minute to stop, and collect themselves until it was too late.

2023-03-06 21:27:29 +0000 UTCHey Tristan, I've looked into the Tom Messick case quite a bit. Many people have requested it. Unfortunately, New York won't release the records on his disappearance because the case is still active. I've tried filing multiple appeals for those records and never won. I did try contacting the authorities in charge of the case, and while they didn't give me any details they did hint that there was a criminal investigation around the disappearance. It seems very likely that there is probably new and previously unknown facts/information related to that case but will likely never get released until Tom Messick is found or they charge someone with his death. This kind of thing can be quite common. A case can seem very strange because of the limited information available. While the authorities know stuff that could easily explain what happened. Rest assured I'll keep trying to learn more about that case.

I'm commenting to ask you if you ever thought about doing a video covering the first case in the "Missing 411 The Hunted" documentary? I believe it is Tom Messick and I've never heard anyone talk about it on Youtube or at least the people in your genre that I watch. I've seen you cover a couple of cases in the documentary already and you definitely shed a lot more light on those. There has to be more to that case than Paulides has shown in the doc and it's the one that sticks out the most to me. Love you channel, you do good work and I'm happy to be a patron.

You understand how much easier it is to get hurt and are less likely to take any unnecessary risks. And these were obviously intelligent women. Curious case and one we’d not heard of before.
