Many of you know that I am a big fan of the Legend of Zelda video games, especially Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 64. In fact, I love it so much that I start a new file in the game every year on October 26th (the anniversary of its US release).
One of the things that draws me in the most is the game's soundtrack. It was written by the immensely talented Koji Kondo, who has crafted some of the catchiest long form melodies of the past 30 years. This song in particular, the "Song of Healing", is a song that recurs in the game again and again, it's soothing melody healing the souls of those who have died who cannot rest in piece, and turning their spirits into a mask that the player can wear. Sometimes the piece is heard with an airy synth pad, but is also heard (most effectively, in my opinion) as a solo piano piece,
When I was coming up with the set list for my very first solo performance in late Spring of 2018, I decided to take advantage of the church piano at the venue I would be playing at, and I learned the "Song of Healing". I am by NO means a piano player, so I was proud of how this performance turned out. A few of my Zelda-loving friends were in attendance of this show, and their enthusiastic applause can be heard at the end :)
