(October 2018 "Something New") - First Five Pages of "Grappling" Comic Book #2

This is what will (probably) be the first five pages of the Grappling comic book #2. No digital editing has been done to the artwork, no colors or dialogue added yet. This is just the pencils and inks that I did. The artwork was scanned into the computer as is. You can actually see some pencils that still need to be inked on page 4, as well as some rough dialogue. But I wanted to let you all in on the unfinished process of making this very special project!

This issue starts with some imagery taken directly from the lyrics to "The Magnet" from the Grappling album. The central protagonist, who we were introduced to in the first issue, is named Sebastian. He has a long centipede crawling up his arm, and his friend Roman is trying to get rid of it with a stick. (You may be familiar with the struggle of trying to get rid of a large insect without crushing it, to avoid the carnage of a squashed bug. I tried to convey that with Roman’s face!) Once the bug is off of Sebastian's coat and on the ground, Roman then decides that it would be best to step on it. As he's about to, he's hit in the head with a rock, and we see the Lamp Maker, another character reference in The Magnet lyrics. She reprimands the boys, telling them that the creature, while repulsive, is sacred. Roman, the more aggressive of the two, taunts the Lamp Maker while Sebastian looks on nervously. The Lamp Maker then screams at the children, scaring them away. The 5th page shows Sebastian in the present day, and we realize that he been dreaming of his childhood memories again.
