Been examining the song "Home" by Depeche Mode. This album "Ultra was released back in the days of "THE LOUDNESS WARS". I am shocked to see how MAXED OUT the track is!!
Look at the audio file, it's got no dynamics and is basically SLAMMED especially in the chorus as you can see its just a solid block!! I think a lot of great records were ruined round about that period because of the "loudness wars". Alan Wilder did comment on an interview about the extreme mastering of the "Ultra"album. I do love The "Ultra" album and it sounds great but I am now going to buy a vinyl version to hear the difference. Due to the physical limitations of vinyl , they'd never be able to master it so "HOT" therefore I'm guessing it will sound far more dynamic on vinyl. Anyone here got this album on vinyl and what are your thoughts on what I have just said?
