February Payment Changes (New Tiers) / PDFs / New Videos

Happy almost February!

I’m so excited to introduce to you the upcoming Patreon changes in February. With the JC Songbooks finally reaching many of you this week, and with the nature of my current video projects, I thought February would be a good time for this transition! First, I want to share with you some of the upcoming videos I have been working on.

“Songs of Jacob Collier” Behind the Scenes Series

- These videos are similar to the 3-part JC interview, but they are more focused on the music itself. We discuss the nitty-gritty of arranging: notes, chords, rhythms, voicings, and notation, while writing the JC songbook together.

More Transcription Videos

- In addition to the usual large-scale JC transcriptions (such as “Moon River”), I will be uploading other piano transcriptions I’ve made since 2013 for my own studies. The artists I transcribe are my biggest source of inspiration and I hope to share this inspiration with you. These pianists include Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Paul Bley, Claire Fischer, and Fred Hersch. Stay tuned!

(And just a quick word of caution - although I put a lot of effort in creating accurate transcriptions, they are by no means perfect and they’re bound to have inaccuracies. These transcriptions are merely by-products of my personal efforts in understanding their language, and I in no way intend to construe or represent the artists’ intentions and thought process through my transcriptions. Because of this, I urge you not to share or upload the PDFs anywhere that might risk free circulation on the Internet. I would prefer that this is a thing between us!)

Short-form Music Theory Videos on Harmony and Voicing

- I’m designing a series of short-form videos (3 minutes or less) on harmony and voicing that focuses on application. This is still on the drawing board - but the idea is not necessarily taking the audience through a narrative, but showing practical applications so that the audience can bring the idea to practice right away and draw their own conclusions.

Collaboration with Others

- There are several collaborations lined up… including an imminent one with maestro David Bruce on composition!

As I described in my previous post, I will be switching from the current tip-per-creation model to a tip-every-month model, with transcription PDFs being the primary rewards. Many of you have reached out to me expressing the need for a steadier method in accessing PDFs, and I think the new model will work much more consistently. There are currently 7 different tiers (from $1/month up to $50/month) and the change goes live on February 1, so please make sure to select your pledge tier by then!

If you miss this message and Patreon charges you on February 1, please do let me know! I understand that this is a short notice, and I will issue a refund immediately. And of course, you are welcome to pledge any amount other than the designated tier amounts. I will always be grateful for your support.
