Superlek vs. Takeru and a ONE Championship shit show
Added 2024-01-29 19:16:41 +0000 UTCThe original plan for this episode was to do Superlek versus Takeru and also the light-flyweight boxing match between Kenshiro and Carlos Canizales in a bumper 'Japanese combat sports' edition. But instead, I just had to focus on the 'super-fight' between Superlek and Takeru, not just for the brilliance of the bout but because of all the shitty feelings it inspired in me. Hence the title.
As for Kenshiro, I'll come back to him later this week, as I not only want to cover that scintillating bout, but also the entire history and all-time rankings of the light-flyweight division. Yes, really. So keep your eyes peeled for that.

It’s a missed opportunity for them business wise and for fight fans entertainment wise. Surely Chatri and ONE are a shoo-in for ‘Shit the bed’ in next years end-of-year awards? 🤔

There's a complete randomness to One's matchmaking and they don't seem to be building any of their divisions in any meaningful way just making all the fighters constantly bounce between sports and weights and compete in mixed rules bouts that don't mean anything. The only time you see any thought going into the match-making is when they are trying to push a narrative i.e. we want to show K1/ Rizin/ Rise are shit compared to One so let's book a bunch of Japanese fighters in tough fights.
