PUBLIC- Ep. 225- Warfare (2025) Discussion + Review

Hey Roomies!

Here is our episode on Warfare! Definitely one of the more complicated movies in the last couple of months!

We also ranked Alex Garland movies and what we predict A24 will push for awards season this year!

the film was definitely a technical feat, but it has the same issues for me as Civil War did. i think his ambivalent, "apolitical" approach leaves the films feeling a little aimless. i think this removed objectivism can be valuable in a story, just not necessarily in these films. for both the films, I think it could be argued that these do more to diminish the realities of what war is, than comment on it in any meaningful way. it almost, maybe unintentionally, portrays war as just an evil necessity, by not addressing the "why" factor, ever. it's not harmful to garner sympathy for soldiers at war, but it becomes harmful when there's no attempt to detach those soldiers from harmful ideology.
