2025-04-08 18:24:27 +0000 UTCAdditionally I find Canadian theatres have been DEAD this entire year. But last night I went to an early screening of drop and it was the first time I’ve had to wait in concession lines in a long time. Nice to see people coming to the theatre atleast.

2025-04-08 18:09:30 +0000 UTCAs a Gen Z movie fan who also can at times be chronically on tik tok the meme’s coming from this movie is something I haven’t seen in a LONG time. I agree that it’s a similar level to the minion/despicable me meme’s at that time. At my showing half of the (sold out) theatre was kids and families and the other half was easily gen Z’s in their early to mid 20’s and the vibes were very enthusiastic and quoting the memed jack black lines. My theatre burst into applause 5 separate times at specific parts. Definitely not something I’ve experienced in a theatre maybe ever.

Like back when those jackass movies came out (I’m old) EVERYONE from middle school through like middle age was in that dang theater being menaces. Had a blast, but I kind of feel like Minecraft fills that niche today.

That type of reaction/ making it a trend. Idk reminds me of the one podcast episode where they talked about the memeify of movies

You guys handle it with a lot of grace, but like yinz said, majorly concerning (aka we’re cooked)

2025-04-08 13:54:34 +0000 UTCit's definitely a meme akin to the gentleminions. people were cheering and clapping at every slight reference to the game. my regal friends said they've had to kick people out everyday for throwing drinks, and having their phones out and yelling. one young kid directly told them "it's a TikTok trend"

2025-04-08 13:05:47 +0000 UTCI’ve taught 7th and 8th grade for six years, and every year IT has had to block Minecraft on their Chromebooks because they try and play during every class. I am also hearing “chicken jockey!!” In the halls this week hahaha.
