The Petr Yan problem
Added 2023-03-15 19:10:57 +0000 UTCA deep-dive on what made Merab Dvalishvili's performance against Petr Yan so great, what it means for the absolutely stacked bantamweight division and a whole stream of consciousness rant about Yan, his place in MMA and why I was so darn wrong about him. Spoiler alert: I'm still not sure but there's SOMETHING missing.

Great way of looking at 135! Hadn’t really considered that before. Saying that modern 155 is still stacked!

As the sport keeps progressing and the UFC draws from an even larger pool of global talent, I think more 5' 8" flyweights will be in our future, and eventually Yan will look a little undersized there too. Frankie Edgar ending his career at 135 lbs is the story of the division. It's also why bantamweight is the new best division, because it's featherweight from 5 years ago, and lightweight from 10 years ago.
