The Fight to Make
Added 2022-12-06 18:04:39 +0000 UTCA cheeky little bonus episode as a random hypothetical fight came to mind today that the UFC could still feasibly make and would make complete and utter sense from a business, narrative and matchmaking standpoint! Let me know if you agree in the comments below, let me know your predictions if it A) Were to happen a couple of events down the line B) Had happened in 2016 bang in the middle of their primes.
What fight am I talking about? Give this bonus episode a listen and find out!

Is this McGregor / Cowboy 2? Conor vs faded action star in a bounce-back fight. Lawler wouldn't be nervous about the spotlight, and I don't think he'd lose via shoulder strikes, but it still feels like Mac-centric matchmaking. I can't pick Lawler against most people these days, but I'll always watch him fight and of course I'd tune in for this.

2022-12-07 23:16:34 +0000 UTCHendricks and MacDonald were never the same after their wars with Lawler, and Conor is at his best in open stance matchups. Plus I think it was the raw hand speed of Woodley that gave Lawler problems, which wasn’t really prime Conor’s game. I’d give 2016 Conor a chance 5% chance of getting Lawler out of there in the 1st round, and a 95% chance of Lawler permanently shortening Conor’s career with a brutal, prolonged beating if it got out of the first. Not all that interested in it now though bc I don’t want to live in a world where Conor has a win over Lawler, which I think is the more likely outcome next year.

2022-12-07 02:23:42 +0000 UTCPersonally I think Conor's potential next opponents are either Chandler or Tony (both at 170). But I haven't thought about Lawler! Would be an easy sell @ 170 and close to a "tune-up" for Conor, god knows he needs it after that leg break. Hopefully it gets made sooner rather than later
