For a long time, I said I wouldn't; that I would provide my readers quality content free of charge. However, after the terrible time I've had over the past 2 years, much has changed in my personal life. Long, horrible story short, I had to quit my job to take care of both of my children; to be perfectly frank, I've been supporting myself for the past several months by recycling bottles and selling my Magic: The Gathering collection (a work 20 years in the making) piece by heart-rending piece.
So, it was this or sell my computer, and like hell.
I will continue to write for as long as possible, of course; whether or not I get a single Patron matters little to me, because writing is my passion. But at this point, it's either charge for my writing or run the risk of getting evicted.
On the plus side, the more Patrons I get, the more free time I'll have to write, and the more things I'll be able to add to each tier -- commissions and polls aren't out of the question.
