Event, TBR Request, and So Much Theraflu

Hello, friends! I'm back from the wedding. We had a great time in California but came home with a parting gift in the form of some kind of cold. Not sure what. The only one that escaped it was my husband. I've been downing vitamin C, drinking tons of fluids and theraflu and napping because I want to get back to normal ASAP. Not only do I need to catch up on posts here, and work on Rough Around the Hedges, but I also have an event this weekend AND a writing weekend. (Though the writing weekend will be interrupted by both the event and teaching via the zooms, but those are at least nice interruptions.)

Still, I have a lot to do! If you're local to my PNW ass, come see me at B&N! I'm going to chat romance novels with some of other amazing authors and a kickers moderator. The event is ticketed, but free. If you make it, tell me you're a patron! I'll give you a high five at the very least.

Hoping to draft the new Sam chapter tomorrow so you'll get it later this week. In the mean time, I was going to create a new TBR of Doom post...and coming up a bit blank on themes. Cold medications are great at giving me nightmares, but not so great on critical thinking, I guess? So I thought I'd toss it in your laps--how about some bespoke reading suggestions? Tell me what kind of book you're looking for, and I'll suggest one for you! Drop it in the comments.

Okay, back to work. Stay healthy out there, friends!

Hmm, adult queer witchy vibe. Who doesn't love that? Have you read Lana Harper yet? It's on my TBR but has been recommended to me by people I trust deeply. Payback's a Witch is the first one. It's witchy romance. The next title's not queer (there are queer side characters, but the main couple is straight) and not horror, but I do think you'd like The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. The interesting death rituals alone would interest you, I think. I've heard good things about Her Bodie and Other Parties (horror) but I haven't read it yet. If you like folk horror at all, The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher is great. That one's not queer as far as I can remember, but Kingfisher usually has a lot of different kinds of people in her books. Swordheart has a nonbinary character, for example. Cassandra Khaw has also been on my horror pile. I'd consider checking her books out.

Finished The Cherry Robbers this weekend and am having trouble settling into another book. (Between that, and Mexican Gothic, and Tamsyn Muir, and a few others, apparently I read horror now?) Would love something that follows, with queer witchy magic, and maybe adult rather than YA. I loved reading ALTF. So much. Eager for more in that world, too.
