Happy Birthday to Bigs!

Today my sweet, giant child is 16. I’m not sure how that happened? I mean, I understand the inevitable march of time, but it still seems weird. How? How is this possible?
I’m grateful that he’s such a kind and mellow kid-a quarantine birthday is no fun, but he’s rolling with it. I’m making cake and he gets to pick take out. There’s not a lot we can do. I had a birthday when I was evacuated from Katrina. We were in Houston and staying with my mom’s cousin. Bigs was a toddler and we didn’t have a house to go back to, but at least I could go out for my birthday. (We got into the zoo for free that day because we were evacuees and my mom’s cousin bought me Thai food which she didn’t care for, but I thought was delicious.)
Still, today he’s sixteen and that’s pretty cool. So, Happy Birthday to Gryphon, aka Bigs, a boy I’m pretty proud of.
This picture is from the time Bigs showed up at the coffee shop I worked at covered in camo and wearing a Russian gas mask. When I asked him why he was wearing a Russian gas mask he said because it was cheaper than the American ones.
