EARLY AND AD-FREE: The Seveso Disaster of 1976 | Episode 64
Added 2024-01-15 03:51:01 +0000 UTCWe’re going back to Italy! But it’ll be hard to enjoy all the flavours and sites with your eyes and tongue swelling out of your head!
On today’s episode: we’ll learn all about Russia’s almost cartoonish fascination with murder, we’ll learn the best way to get that full-body boil-look, and we’ll learn all the ways your cleaning products can make you not make think so good
The last time we were in Italy we had a Tetraology of Terror, our very first interactive disastersode, and hundreds of thousands died in every way imaginable. We don’t know how many people died from the complications of this episode, but it’s nice to do a bloodless story where no one was turned inside-out every now and then.
And because YOU listen to this on Patreon, you'll also hear all about:
• The cartoonish cloak and dagger world of Russian assassination tactics
• The lifesaving and bowel cleaning properties of Olestra
• We discussed whether Catherine the Great had sex with horses
• We covered how disturbingly little vacation time North America gets compared to, well, the rest of the planet really
• We discussed the radiance of American superfund sites, including my semi-local favourite, Love Canal
• And I included a minisode within the episode telling the unbelievable tale of Times Beach, Missouri and their impossibly poisonous road spraying technique

Nat, I'm so sorry it took me so long to see this, and you are more than welcome. I love that our worlds crossed that way. If I could attach one thing for your assignment, it'd be this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRvaR4fqrYY&t=23s Simply replace Donny Don't with PG&E. Although, you've probably finished, submitted and had that graded already. How'd you do?
2024-02-11 22:48:49 +0000 UTCI have to do a project about Times Beach for my environmental engineering class so thank you for the minisode!!
2024-02-01 04:15:31 +0000 UTCThat's an amazing point about magic erasers, didn't even think of the possibility there. Nice work Jason. But also nice work holding onto the ghost when the mustard gas hit. A friend did the same thing with toilet cleaners and rolled out of his house like Schwarzenegger gasping for air in Total Recall.
2024-01-27 21:16:26 +0000 UTCExcellent episode as always Brad! Thank you so much for the mixing household cleaners segment! Many do not know. Back in 2015 I decided I didn’t have enough CLR (ammonia based) so I added some bleach for extra toilet cleaning power. Seconds after I mixed the 2 it was immediate poison gas (aka Mustard Gas)! I quickly opened a window and vacated the family! It’s no joke and the reaction hits fast! Also folks remember most magic erasers have chemicals in them that will react to certain liquid cleaners (use water only), many don’t think about that.
2024-01-26 05:24:18 +0000 UTCThat hits close to home. At least they weren't the most evil company in history. Wait till our next episode....
2024-01-20 14:20:36 +0000 UTCI love this episode! My mom worked at OU poison control at night when I was a kid and and in the '90s she reviewed drug trials for Roche.
