Character: Design tips? Looking for advice and ideas for a better vault page.

The first image is a working copy of what I've got so far. The second image is the current vault page.
I always get lost looking for an item. It's the same every time - I'm mid activity and I convince myself I can tab out and grab something in 2 seconds but for some reason I just can't see it even though it's usually right in front of me.
Tips, ideas, suggestions? 😅
Hi Tom. You do an amazing job with Bray, truly impressive. I'm a Destiny lover and a designer and had a couple thoughts on the Vault/Items layout.
The width of the thumbnail section is too much for humans to easily process, leading to a huge cognitive load when one tries to scan for a specific item. Combining a progressive disclosure technique with item chunking could help. I was thinking two "top 10" thumbnail columns in place of the super wide row. Top 10 felt like a good guess as I think you could populate the highest leveled weapons to be shown with a "see all" lightbox for all weapons of that type.
You could also move the search well to be above the thumbnail columns as well as a set of fast filters. Those filters could be the solar/arc/etc plus Crafted, Exotic AND Overload, Barrier and Unstoppable. Again, not sure about the API details, but you look to have the data for what current activities are requiring special weapon types. If you can also know where someone is or where they just were, and what they have set up in the seasonal artifact, you might be able to populate results that display the most relevant weapons first.

Love the categorization and selections on the left! A Favorites group is a great idea too

Looking at your six identical 1810 Hung Jury’s, there’s no way to tell which one is which at a glance without selecting each one individually. (This is also an issue in DIM.) It might be cool this view “stacked” weapons, and then show the roll nodes on hover/select.

A lot of the time I am looking for, say, an arc pulse for a bounty. Being able to sort by element is marvelous, thank you.
I also like the idea of favorites!

Being able to tag items as a favorite helps a lot in DIM. A sort option that goes by kill count would be helpful too. My DIM sort option is to sort by masterwork status, then by tag, then by name. But I'd probably sort by kill count first if that were an option, since those are the weapons I use most.

Really loving the first image. Looks so organized. Just an idea but on the left nav - can you move the number of the item closer to the category? Example: Pulse Rifles (24). Feel like it might help continue that organized view.

Don't know exactly how feasible it would be, but maybe a way to "favorite" items, and display them in a category at the top? That way if I need to grab my Div in a pinch, I know exactly where it is, etc

You could try affixing the grey weapon type icons to the first column in the current vault view, and then only display specific item icons in columns 2+, even when they wrap to the next line. It would provide a visual hanging-indent for each weapon type icon, and make it possible to memorize and become accustomed to the weapon type ordering. Similar to what you have with labeled headings, but retaining some more compactness and density of display than the text headings do.
