Server Costs and Earnings Update

I attempt to be transparent about our costs as much as possible so supporters can see directly what the money is being used for and what services we actually use, and how much they cost.

Unlike the last cost update I will make this as short and clear as possible. Costs are in £ since that is what currency I use to pay.

Service               | Provider             | Cost
Main Server           | GameServerKings | £0 *
2nd Server            | Hetzner                | £35.07
DTP / DB               | Linode                   | £12.51
Outgoing Email     | Mailgun                | £1.87
Backups                | AWS                      | £2.37
Proxy / VPN Check | proxycheck.io       | £2.35
----
Total                     |                              | £54.17

The total converted into other currencies is: $68.82,  €62.86

* We get this server from GameServerKings for free as part of a partnership with the Terraria subreddit. It is a risk that, at any time, this offer could be pulled, and the server be taken away.

------

At the time of this post, we are at £70 from patreon supporters per month. This means we are currently above the costs per month.

However, due to fluctuations in this amount, we always allow some amount of buffer to ensure that if we lose some supporters in a particular period, that there is some money still around to make up the difference.

Here you can see earnings over the last year:

You can see that the payment fees and platform fees, unfortunately reduce how much we end up getting. This month is also an anomaly compared to the past months, so the amount may not always be this high if some supporters stop their subscription.

The platform fee is 8%. This is actually the cheapest plan at the moment:

If we end up with a steady amount coming in above our costs, then I will put out a poll for people to vote on what they prefer the extra money be used for. The options are likely to be something along the lines of upgrading hardware, more downtime resilience, or keeping the money as a buffer.
