Deck and SB guide, effective 11/8/2022

Hi everyone, here is the updated Hammer list effective 11/8/22. You'll notice some small changes from last month, which I will cover below. I expect a slight downtick in ETBs, but the increase in various RB/x decks (Jund, Jund Saga, Rakdos Scam) pushed me in a couple directions

Of course, make sure to adjust your mid-match decisions based on the specifics of any list you face and use this as a guideline, rather than a hard and fast rule!

-0 Relics/GY hate - Still very happy with this. See past posts for the reasoning here.

-2 MD Skill and Pierce - I had to continue adding-cards to the SB, and this paired with how powerful Pierce has become G1 led me to add it back (looking at Creativity, the Mirror, and UW control).

-2 Lavinia/1 Drannith - Not only is she still excellent against Cascade and 4C Elementals, but with her stopping Leyline Binding, she continues to be one of your best tools. I have split with Drannith because Drannith does a good job hating on cascade while also fighting against Underworld Breach.

-Cyst over Chip: Without Yorion in the format, we still don't need the overwhelming card advantage from Chip. Additionally, the pressure Chip can provide has done a great job.

-2 Sanctifier: Yeah... there are a lot of RB decks running around, especially without 4C Yorion to bully Jund as much. While we can beat the decks without Sanctifier, having access to her is a powerful tool.

-2 Hushbringer: While 4C elementals has ticked down, they still exist. Additionally, I have seen more tribal decks (specifically Merfolk) become more popular, and Hushbringer is an absolute beating against them. Also, she can do some solid work against Yawgmoth.

-4 Removal Spell Suite: With more Hammer running around, and Ragavan ticking up a bit more, having the ability to interact a bit more is proving to be highly valuable. I am going with the 2 March/1 Ending/1 Path split because March is great against Saga decks while still having utility against other decks as well. Ending is a nice split between covering the mirror, Amulet, Yawg, and Ragavan decks.

Comments

I think if you are looking to add Haywire mite, I would cut the fast lands for an extra fetch and a temple garden. Wanting to main/SB it is entirely dependent on the expected meta. Please keep in mind that while Mite is a solid card, it does not address Dryad of the Ilysian Grove, and it is likely too slow vs Titan on the whole.

Do you have an opinion on splashing for mite yet? If so, are you playing it main or side? I’ve got an RCQ Saturday and I’m trying to lock in on a 75
