Update: To Create Authentic Ambience.
Added 2021-11-29 02:10:26 +0000 UTCI won't be able to get episode 4 out by the end of November. I've spent last week trying to find the background sounds and because there aren't any on YouTube (step 1 is scan YouTube for any good relevant uploads), I've resorted to making my own. To give you an idea of what that is like:
Download the items from somewhere else, taking around 3 days (as I went with downloading the entire series to make it simple for later editing).
Convert those video files.
Chop up (in this example) Season 7 of 'Inside Man' (with Final Cut Pro) for Pathfinder background sounds listening for the silence when the characters aren't speaking. This is so i can build out 1 or 2 minutes of what's called 'clean audio' and then just copy and paste the length to fit the scene in the app i'm using to build the podcast episode.
I also have to source my own EMH appear and disappear sounds.
I'm about 31 minutes into the episode at any rate. 1/3 of the way left.
But the overall point is something as simple as an ambient sound takes days to create if someone else hasn't made one. And I'm not a sound engineer.
This isn't a diss on other podcasts, but sometimes they use audio elements from other TV shows (to speed up the editing process) and I don't want to. Star Trek: Excelsior for example uses music from Battlestar Galactica for some moments. I want all sound effects and music to mostly use VOY and DS9.
I hope to still finish the episode before the second week of December at any rate.
2nd December Update - I've finished the background and can record 2-3 scenes this week!
